If the pandemic cannot be contained, the delivery of cargoes will be further blocked, which may affect the following production of ferrochrome.

SHANGHAI, Sep 27 (SMM) – The COVID-19 pandemic situation in Tianjin deteriorated yesterday, with another 42 cases being confirmed. In response, the city has put some areas in a lockdown, starting from CST 4:25 am, September 27, so as to contain the spread of the disease.

According to SMM survey, due to the sudden increase of covid-19 cases in Tianjin, chrome ore shipments from many yards owned by Beijiang Warehouse were disrupted, while shipments from Nanjiang Warehouse were little affected. The transportation is current resuming in the wake of cautious inspection on the yards. As the National Day holiday is around the corner, some ferrochrome plants still had restocking demand for raw materials. However, due to the enduring high prices of chrome ore, the ferrochrome plants who suffered losses mainly purchased in small amount and on rigid demand. If the pandemic cannot be contained, the delivery of cargoes will be further blocked, which may affect the following production of ferrochrome.

SMM will keep a close eye on the latest development.
