The average price of imported lithium carbonate in August rose 14% from the previous month, and it is expected that the price will inflate in September.

Lithium carbonate

The prices of lithium carbonate rose last week. The upstream large manufacturers rarely quoted recently, but the spot price has increased to about 530,000 yuan/mt. It is expected that the offers of leading manufacturers are likely to rise slightly after they finish the delivery of long-term orders. The upstream lithium salt smelters maintained stable production, while the spot trades were brisk. Slower shipments of lithium carbonate extracted from salt lakes further boosted the prices of industrial-grade lithium carbonate. At present, the downstream battery material factories have commenced restocking at the end of the month. The uplift in purchase was the driving force behind the increasing transaction prices. The average price of imported lithium carbonate in August rose 14% from the previous month, and it is expected that the price will inflate in September.

Lithium hydroxide

The prices of lithium hydroxide move upward last week. Since the domestic battery material factories have been restocking and preparing for the production in October, the orders for high-nickel battery materials kept increasing. The upstream enterprises resumed normal production with the end of power rationing and maintenance. The quotations of domestic lithium hydroxide smelters stood at 489,000-500,000 yuan/mt, with a slower increase than that in lithium carbonate prices.

【SMM New Energy News】Sungrow: Global Energy Storage Installations Expected to Grow 30%-50% Over Next Three Years
At an investor meeting on April 27, Sungrow stated that while rising raw material costs, such as lithium carbonate, challenge the returns of large-scale projects, small-to-medium projects remain resilient due to agile cost pass-through. Overall, the company maintains a positive outlook, forecasting that the global energy storage installation scale will continue to expand, with an expected growth rate between 30% and 50% over the next three years.

【SMM New Energy News】Guangdong 15th Five-Year Plan Highlights Perovskite PV and Diverse Storage
On April 28, Guangdong Province officially released the Outline of its 15th Five-Year Plan. The plan proposes strengthening R&D and equipment manufacturing for new PV technologies like perovskite and tandem cells, while supporting the development of solar-storage-charging and PEDF (photovoltaics, energy storage, direct current and flexibility) integrated products. It also emphasizes reinforcing the electrochemical energy storage supply chain, expanding diverse technical routes for solid-state batteries, and promoting applications of sodium-ion, flow, and compressed air energy storage. Additionally, the outline highlights developing offshore wind components, accelerating the smart grid equipment industry, and promoting mature Gen III nuclear power technologies.
