SHANGHAI, Sep 22 (SMM) - According to customs data, China imported 1.3829 million mt of petroleum coke in August, a month-on-month increase of 52.12% and year-on-year increase of 19.42%. The imports totalled 9.1273 million mt in January-August, 2022, up 5.15% on the year.

The imports of high-sulfur petroleum coke stood at 1.0254 million mt while the imports of uncalcined petroleum coke with sulphur content of less than 3% recorded 357,600 mt In terms of importers, the United States imported 554,400 mt of petroleum coke, of which high-sulfur petroleum coke accounted for 72%. Venezuela imported 248,900 mt of petroleum coke, all of which were all high-sulfur petroleum coke.

On the whole, the import of petroleum coke in August far exceeded expectations. The increase in port petroleum coke made up for the supply gap caused by the domestic overhaul. According to the traders, due to strict requirements, the quality of imported petroleum coke improved slightly. Amid the heating season, the demand of downstream carbon enterprises continued to decline. In addition, the prices of petroleum coke fluctuated in a narrow range for a long time. It is expected that the imports of petroleum coke will decrease slightly in September.
