An industry insider predicted that the demand for anode materials this year will amount to 1.2 million mt while the supply gap will stand at around 300,000 mt.

SHANGHAI, Jul 27 (SMM) - It is reported that the supply of anode materials for power battery is in shortage due to the strong downstream demand for power batteries in new energy vehicles, energy storage and other fields. An industry insider predicted that the demand for anode materials this year will amount to 1.2 million mt while the supply gap will stand at around 300,000 mt. At present, many leading anode materials companies reported full orders and some have raised their prices amid tight supply and increasing costs. According to the Guolian Securities, the global demand for lithium batteries is expected to reach 3,467GWh in 2026, and accordingly the demand for anode materials is expected to achieve 4.16 million mt, with a five-year compound annual growth rate of up to 43.85%. Financial Associated Press provided the information of relevant listed companies as follows:

Baichuan Co., Ltd. announced that a project of 50,000 mt needle coke and a 5,000 mt/year anode material project have been put into production.

Zhongke Electric revealed that the company's production capacity is currently tight, and that after all new production capacity construction projects are completed, the company's production capacity of anode material will be 440,000-450,000 mt/year.

August Oxide Electrolyte Analysis: How Does the "Solid-Liquid Hybrid Main Engine" Perform Amid Price Divergence?
In August 2026, oxide electrolytes continued their role as the "main engine for solid-liquid hybrid batteries." LATP prices dropped to just over RMB 90/kg, while LLZO held steady at RMB 638/kg. Unlike sulfide electrolytes, which saw record-high production but a meager capacity utilization rate of just 5.82%, the oxide route。
