SHANGHAI, Jul 25 (SMM) - According to statistics, 501,000 new energy passenger vehicles were sold in June, a sharp increase of 129% from 218,000 units in the same period last year, and a 63% increase from this May. The sales of pure electric vehicles were 400,000 units, accounting for 80% of the total sales, up 65% month-on-month and 125% year-on-year, while the sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles were 100,000 units, accounting for 20%, up 56% month-on-month and 156% year-on-year.
As for the performance of car companies, the top 15 car companies in terms of sales sold 426,000 vehicles in total in June, an increase of 64% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 133%, with a concentrate rate of 83%. BYD’s sales were outstanding again in June, with 130,000 units sold, an increase of 28% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 268%. It was reported that some popular car models of the company were not available for delivery until several months later, but consumers were still enthusiastic in placing orders in advance. Tesla sold 77,262 units in June, an increase of 647% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 171%. The company's sales in the second quarter declined for the first time in two years mainly due to the previous production suspension of its Shanghai factory. In order to make up for the missed sales in the second half of the year, Tesla announced that it would suspend the production for two weeks in July to transform its production lines. It is expected that Tesla's production capacity will be improved to a higher level after the transformation is done. FAW-Volkswagen sold 10,411 units in June, an increase of 78% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 164%, after suffering huge losses in March and April when the resurgence of pandemic occurred in Changchun.
Thanks to the production resumption in Shanghai, Shanghai Volkswagen also recovered from the inactivity. In June, the sales of the company were 9,939 units, an increase of 143% on the month and 110% on the year.
In terms of performance by models, the sales of Tesla Model Y ranked first for the first time, with a record high of more than 50,000 units in June, a sharp month-on-month increase of 739% and up 351% year-on-year. The sales of Tesla's Model 3 were 25,000 units, up 515% month-on-month or 50% year-on-year, ranking the fifth. Since May, the production capacity of Tesla's Shanghai factory has basically recovered. The high demand that was accumulated in the past two months, coupled with various subsidies and preferential policies from local governments, drove Tesla's sales in June to skyrocket. As for BYD Qin PLUS, whose production lines at Changsha plants were under rectifications, sold 10,355 units in July, up 46% year-on-year but down 8% month-on-month.
