SHANGHAI, Jul 25 (SMM) - The costs of aluminium smelters were largely stable last week. The cost pressure may be alleviated in the future as prebaked anode prices and power costs are likely to fall slightly, but will remain at a high level when compared with the same period last year. The real-time costs of smelters rose 28 yuan/mt from a week ago to 18,025 yuan/mt as of last Friday, while the losses of smelters eased 541 yuan/mt to 35 yuan/mt thanks to the rebound of SMM spot aluminium prices to 17,990 yuan/mt. With aluminium prices still under pressure, the profitability of smelters is unlikely to improve any time soon.
