SHANGHAI, Jun 23 (SMM) - As torrential rain affected the power supply in Nandan County, Guangxi Province, the production of local zinc smelters was disrupted. According to SMM survey, the impact of the heavy rainfall has gradually subsided, and the local smelters will gradually resume normal production.
SMM has reassessed the impact of the incident and made adjustments to our refined zinc production forecast. SMM now estimates that the domestic refined zinc production in June will decrease by 19,300 mt from the previous month to 495,900 mt and drop 12,000 mt or 2.37% year-on-year. The output is estimated to total 2.98 million mt from January to June, a year-on-year decrease of 1.31%.
Considering that some smelters in the north are scheduled to carry out routine maintenance from July to August, SMM predicts that the output of refined zinc in July will rise only 3% MoM and fall 0.85% YoY to 510,800 mt. The output is estimated to total 3.49 million mt from January to July, a year-on-year decrease of 1.24%.

South Korea to Exempt Tariffs on Overseas-Sourced Critical Minerals
On the 25th, it was confirmed that the South Korean government will exempt tariffs of 3–8% on critical minerals such as lithium, graphite, and rare earth elements when domestically owned companies directly produce and import them from overseas. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has pre-announced a new regulation outlining tariff exemptions for overseas resource development projects. Under the policy, a total of 14 critical minerals—including lithium, graphite, nickel, cobalt, manganese, copper, zinc, and rare earth elements such as lanthanum, cerium, neodymium, terbium, dysprosium, yttrium, and scandium—will be eligible for duty exemption when brought into the country. The regulation is set to take effect on April 3.
