SHANGHAI, Jun 21 (SMM) - According to a report by CNBC on June 20, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said in an interview that the Indonesian government has been discussing with car dealers such as Tesla and Ford to build production facilities including car factories in Indonesia. Joko said that he met with Tesla CEO Musk in May, and he suggested Tesla set up its entire supply chain in Indonesia. In order to promote its economic development and use its natural resources for domestic manufacturing, Indonesia hopes to get rid of the single export of raw materials and become a global player of electric vehicle batteries and a manufacturer of electric vehicles. According to reports, Joko denied that Indonesia is a "protectionist country" and stressed that Indonesia's door is open to all participants who want to make use of the country's rich natural resources, provided that their factories can promote local economic development.
