April Passenger Vehicle Production and Sales down More than 40% in Apr due to COVID

According to China Association of Automobile Manufactures (CAAM), the normal production and operation of the automobile industry has been severely hit by the complicated pandemic situation in China, which resulted in insufficient supply and sluggish consumption and market confidence.

SHANGHAI, May 19 - According to China Association of Automobile Manufactures (CAAM), the normal production and operation of the automobile industry has been severely hit by the complicated pandemic situation in China, which resulted in insufficient supply and sluggish consumption and market confidence.

In April 2022, passenger vehicle production and sales reached 996,000 and 965,000 units respectively, down 47.1% and 48.2% MoM, and down 41.9% and 43.4% YoY respectively. The decline was 41.8 percentage points and 42.8 percentage points wider than last month.

From January to April 2022, passenger vehicle production and sales stood at 6,494,000 and 6,510,000 units respectively, down 2.6% and 4.2% year-on-year.

In April 2022, among the major varieties of passenger vehicles, sales of the four major categories showed rapid declines both month-on-month and year-on-year, with crossover passenger vehicles falling at a more pronounced rate.

From January to April 2022, among the main varieties of passenger vehicles, crossover passenger vehicle sales increased slightly compared to the same period last year, while the other three categories all posted declines, with multi-purpose passenger vehicles (MPVs) showing more significant decreases.

In April 2022, sales of domestically produced premium-brand passenger vehicles were finished at 114,000 units, down 61.5% year-on-year and down more than passenger cars as a whole.

From January to April 2022, sales of domestically produced premium-brand passenger vehicles stood at 1.042 million units, down 10.1% year-on-year and 5.9 percentage points wider than the overall decline in passenger cars.
