"in addition to providing it with high-quality power batteries, Mercedes-Benz (Mercedes-Benz) is also interested in the ability of carbon-neutral solutions," Zhao Weijun, executive director of Vision Power and president of China, said of the company's huge orders for Mercedes-Benz.

On April 8, 2022, the first phase of Vision Power Ordos Zero carbon Battery Factory was officially put into production. According to Battery China, the first phase of the project has a capacity of 10GWh to produce lithium iron phosphate batteries for energy storage and electric heavy truck scenarios.

The base is located in the world's first zero-carbon industrial park: prospect Ordos zero-carbon industrial park.

The industrial park is based on three innovative pillars: "new power system", "zero-carbon digital operating system" and "green new industrial cluster". The new clean, stable and efficient power system formed by fan, photovoltaic, energy storage and intelligent Internet of things in the industrial park provides 100% zero-carbon energy supply for battery production. At the same time, the zero-carbon digital authentication system based on EnOS intelligent things operating system gives products in the park traceable, in line with all kinds of international standards, certified by authoritative organizations "zero-carbon green code", not afraid of carbon tariff barriers, popular all over the world.

For the global mainstream car companies, under the background of increasingly stringent carbon emission policies, the carbon reduction level of the power battery industry chain has become an important assessment index; in addition, the European Union and other regions have set a "threshold" for the "zero carbon" of power batteries and set a clear timetable.

This "threshold" has two meanings: first, battery manufacturers that do not have low-carbon capacity will be excluded from the EU market; second, battery companies with low levels of carbon emission reduction will bear additional carbon tax costs when entering the EU market. Weakening its competitiveness. It is estimated that after the formal implementation of EU carbon emission regulations, if calculated according to the current battery pack carbon emissions, a 100KWh battery pack will increase the "carbon cost" of 400-500 euros.

Different from the traditional diesel locomotives, the carbon emissions of electric vehicles are mainly at the production end, among which the production of power batteries accounts for a large proportion.

It is worth noting that the carbon emissions of power battery production are mainly concentrated in two links: one is the assembly and manufacturing of cells, and the other is the production of upstream raw materials and equipment. Institutional research data show that the carbon emissions of battery production and assembly are about 2~47kg CO2/kWh, while the upstream part of battery production is 59kg CO2/kWh, accounting for more than half.

Therefore, battery manufacturing, upstream cathode material production are high energy-consuming industries, the entire industry chain of carbon emission reduction "can not be less."

Unlike other battery companies in order to achieve "carbon neutralization" in battery production and assembly, the vision of building a zero-carbon industrial park around the world is not only to achieve "zero carbon" emissions from battery manufacturing. at the same time, it also helps the upstream and downstream partners of the battery industry chain to achieve carbon neutralization.

Vision Ordos Zero carbon Industrial Park through the cooperation of landscape hydrogen storage technology, will achieve 100% green power supply, directly for the upstream battery partners in the park, and reduce carbon emissions from high energy-consuming manufacturing links such as positive and negative electrodes and electrolytes, so as to achieve low-carbon or even zero-carbon throughout the battery industry chain. At present, a number of upstream and downstream enterprises, including FAW Liberation and Sheng Vanadium Technology, have entered the Ordos Zero carbon Industrial Park.

In addition, the energy cost accounts for about 30% of the upstream material manufacturing cost, while Inner Mongolia is rich in scenery resources, and the kilowatt-hour cost of clean energy is lower than the local thermal power grid price, relying on the large-scale application of low-cost green power. It can reduce the manufacturing cost of upstream materials, and then reduce the cost of the whole manufacturing process of batteries, and promote the benign and healthy development of the whole industry chain.

According to the understanding of Battery China, with the power battery industry as the starting point, the vision is relying on the technological integration capability of the new energy system, the layout of the new energy vehicle charging network, the integrated demonstration of landing green hydrogen and application, enabling the zero-carbon transformation of the upstream and downstream of the new energy industry, and creating a green new industrial cluster and a highland of green scientific and technological innovation.

In the future, with the acceleration of China's "double carbon" strategy and the landing of the EU battery carbon tax, the zero-carbon industrial park built around the new energy vehicle industry will effectively promote the development of upstream battery key materials, precision component enterprises and downstream new energy vehicle industry. This model will be replicated and promoted in more and more areas.

At present, Vision Power has laid out 10 major production bases in Japan, the United States, France and the United Kingdom, and the planned production capacity of zero-carbon batteries will exceed 300GWh by 2025. At the market end, Vision Power has carried out in-depth strategic cooperation with domestic and foreign car companies such as Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Nissan and Honda around green power batteries to accelerate the transformation of traditional commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles and special vehicles to new energy. build a zero-carbon automobile industry ecosystem.

[Lake Resources’ Kachi Project Receives Environmental Approval]
On September 29, Lake Resources announced that its Kachi lithium brine project in Argentina has received an Environmental Impact Declaration (DIA) issued by the Mining Ministry of Catamarca Province. The DIA requires a 200-meter surface exclusion zone around the lagoon shoreline. The company said it is updating mineral resource estimates accordingly, but existing ore reserve estimates and wellfield development plans are not expected to be affected. The project uses Lilac Solutions’ direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology and is designed to reinject more than 95% of processed brine into the native aquifer, isolated from freshwater resources, and to eliminate traditional evaporation ponds. Kachi Phase 1 has a designed capacity of 25,000 tonnes per annum of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE), and the company’s planned Phase 2 scheme aims to further increase capacity to 50,000 tpa. Following environmental approval, the project is entering the front-end engineering and design (FEED) stage, advancing engineering definition, long-lead equipment procurement, construction planning, and commercial negotiations, in preparation for a subsequent final investment decision (FID). The company also committed US$1 million to the Catamarca Province Mining Concession Trust Fund to support local community infrastructure.

[China Union Holdings: Canada’s FIRES to Further Review Lithium Brine Investment]
On September 29, China Union Holdings announced that, as previously announced on August 14, it had received a notice from Canada’s foreign investment review and economic security authority (“FIRES”), which considered that the company’s investment in the Arizaro lithium brine project could affect Canada’s national security and might therefore initiate a further review within 45 days from the date of the notice. On September 29, the company received a notice from FIRES under Section 25.3 of the Investment Canada Act, notifying it of FIRES’s intention to conduct a further review of the transaction. The company and the seller are continuing to communicate with FIRES and are considering feasible options or remedies.
