SHANGHAI, Apr 7 (SMM) - The domestic aluminium billet inventory stood at 165,600 mt as of April 7, an increase 8,100 mt or 5.12% from a week ago. The regional inventory changes were as follows: Nanchang (+3,900 mt or 57.91%); Changzhou (-4,700 mt or 21.17%); Wuxi (-600 mt or 1.57%); Huzhou (+4,000 mt or 30.77%); Foshan (+5,500 mt or 7.22%). The pandemic-induced transportation problems in Wuxi prompted buyers to pick up cargoes from Changzhou, where the pandemic was less severe, leading to a sharp decline in local inventory. This week, the impact of the pandemic on truck shipments has intensified, especially in east China, where both inflows and outflows of cargoes were hindered. In addition, traders and downstream producers refrained from purchasing amid sluggish end consumption, also contributing to higher inventory in Foshan, Huzhou, and Nanchang.

Given declining demand in mainstream consumption areas under the influence of the pandemic, it is expected that the aluminium billet inventory will continue to accumulate next week.

EGA Inaugurates Largest UAE Aluminium Recycling Plant with 185,000 tpy Capacity
[SMM Aluminum Express News] Emirates Global Aluminium has inaugurated the Al Taweelah Aluminium Recycling Plant, the largest aluminum recycling facility in the UAE, with a production capacity of 185,000 tpy. The plant processes post-consumer and selected pre-consumer aluminum scrap into low-carbon billets and T-bars marketed under the RevivAL brand. The facility began producing recycled aluminum in February 2026, with full ramp-up expected within six months, subject to scrap availability. The project makes EGA the largest consumer of aluminum scrap in the UAE and increases the company's global recycling capacity to more than 400,000 tpy across the UAE, Europe, and the United States, with a further 200,000 tpy under development.

AD Ports and EGA Invest $22.9M to Upgrade Berth for Larger Vessels, Boosting Cargo Capacity
[SMM Aluminum Express News] AD Ports Group and Emirates Global Aluminium will jointly invest AED 84 million (US$22.9 million) to upgrade EGA’s dedicated berth at Khalifa Port. The multi-phase project will enable the berth to accommodate Newcastlemax dry bulk vessels, which can carry 15–20% more cargo than the Capesize vessels currently used. Upon completion by August 2028, the upgraded berth is expected to handle approximately 8 million tonnes of bulk cargo annually, enhancing raw material logistics efficiency and supply chain resilience for EGA’s aluminium operations.

Central China Aluminum Market Sluggish, Prices Fall Amid Weak Demand and Low Selling Interest
Today, the transaction atmosphere in the central China market remained sluggish. The decline in SHFE aluminum futures persisted, and downstream processing enterprises showed significant fear of falling prices, with only those not under long-term contracts engaging predominantly in just-in-time procurement. As aluminum prices fell excessively, suppliers' willingness to sell also remained low, and their willingness to hold prices firm was weak. Ultimately, the actual transaction price range in the central China market centered around a premium of –30 to –50 yuan/mt against the SHFE aluminum July contract.
