There seems to be an obvious contrast between BYD's "enthusiasm" and Tan Xuguang's "throwing cold water", but in fact they each have their own positions. Compared with YD, the pure fuel vehicle business has become a chicken rib, and it has no power to fight a war in the middle and high-end fuel vehicle market. Such being the case, it would be better to seize the resounding title of the "first company in the world" to give up the fuel car business as soon as possible, which is also more conducive to publicity. In fact, BYD still has a lot of hybrid models, and it is not entirely objective to say that it gives up the internal combustion engine altogether.

From the point of view of Weichai Group, as an established car company with diesel engines and commercial vehicles as its main business, although its business is growing rapidly overseas, especially in Europe and the United States, and the demand for product exports is very large, but the domestic market has obviously encountered great challenges from new energy vehicles. In the field of commercial vehicles, for example, BAIC Foton's new energy momentum is good, and Great Wall's hydrogen fuel heavy truck is making rapid progress. In his speech, Tan Xuguang accused new energy of being "eager for success" and "overcapacity", which also confirmed the great challenges it faces.

At present, the situation of overcapacity in the new energy vehicle industry does exist. During the two sessions this year, Wang Fengying, deputy to the National people's Congress and president of Great Wall Motor, said that by the end of 2020, China's total production capacity of new energy vehicles had reached 26.69 million, and the market sales were only 1.367 million. If the new energy vehicle planning projects are launched in various places during the 14th five-year Plan period, the problem of overcapacity will be further aggravated on the basis of the 13th five-year Plan. Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has repeatedly proposed that the number of new energy vehicle enterprises is too large, in a small and scattered situation, to encourage mergers and restructuring of enterprises to become bigger and stronger.

However, the author believes that this situation can not prove that the new energy vehicle industry will face "catastrophic overcapacity". In fact, BYD's choice and Tan Xuguang's bombardment are both aspects of the current situation of the new energy vehicle industry. The surplus of the industry and the strong of the leading enterprises are always strong, and the two are not contradictory. On the whole, there are some problems such as overcapacity in the new energy vehicle industry, but this is the only way to promote the upgrading of the industry, and it is also the market law. Because the white-hot competition can effectively improve the efficiency of the industry and promote the rapid popularization of products.

Only after full competition, China's new energy automobile industry can give birth to world-class leading car enterprises. At present, the vigorous development of new energy vehicles in the future is the trend of the times, and the continuous increase in market share is predictable. The problem of overcapacity at the industry level is expected to be cleared by various means such as integration and reorganization in the future. In this process, the main problem that enterprises should consider is how to match their own advantages and disadvantages, find the right position to find room for development, rather than pay too much attention to the industry level.

In fact, while "shelling" industry problems, Tan Xuguang also introduced to investors in detail the latest actions of his own layout of the new energy industry chain. According to its introduction, Weichai takes the lead in the layout of the fuel cell industry chain. Weichai Power has successively invested in Siris in the UK, Ballard in Canada, and Odes in Germany to build a new energy powertrain with "battery + motor + electric control" as one. Obviously, Weichai Power is not slow at all in this respect.
