Recently, research institutions EVTank, Ivy Economic Research Institute and China Battery Industry Research Institute jointly released the "White Paper on the Development of waste Lithium Ion Battery Recycling and disassembly and echelon Utilization Industry in China (2022)". According to the data of the white paper, the theoretical recovery of waste lithium-ion batteries in China in 2021 is as high as 591000 tons, of which the theoretical recovery of waste power batteries is 294000 tons, and the theoretical recovery of 3C and small power waste lithium-ion batteries is 242000 tons. the theoretical recovery of other related wastes is 55000 tons. In its white paper, EVTank predicts that China's theoretical recycling of used lithium-ion batteries will reach 2.312 million tons in 2026, much higher than the white paper issued by the agency in 2021.
It is understood that since 2018, EVTank has issued a "White Paper on the Development of China's waste Lithium Ion Battery Recycling and disassembly and echelon Utilization Industry", which has been released for five consecutive years. According to the newly released "White Paper on the Development of waste Lithium-ion Battery Recycling and disassembly and echelon Utilization Industry in China (2022)", it is predicted that the theoretical market scale of waste lithium-ion battery recycling in China will reach 94.32 billion yuan by 2026. EVTank analysis believes that the rapid growth of the market scale, in addition to the growth of waste battery recycling, what is more important is that with the growth of downstream lithium battery demand, the price of upstream metal raw materials has an explosive growth trend, which makes the market price of valuable metals extracted from waste battery also rise.
Wu Hui, general manager of the research department of Yiwei Economic Research Institute and director of China Battery Industry Research Institute, said that the rapid rise in the price of lithium battery-related raw materials, especially lithium carbonate, can make a profit for lithium iron phosphate batteries, which are not worth dismantling. Therefore, in 2021, a large number of battery recycling enterprises began to layout the recycling of lithium iron phosphate batteries to extract lithium carbonate materials from recycled waste batteries. In this context, Wu Hui said that the price of recycled batteries has also risen. Since 2022, the price of waste lithium iron phosphate batteries has been close to 20, 000 yuan / ton, and the price of waste ternary batteries has exceeded 40, 000 yuan / ton. the higher value of lithium cobalt may have exceeded 100000 / ton. For suggestions for the development of waste lithium-ion batteries in the future, Wu Hui said that in the short term, enterprises in the industry will have recycling channels, but in the long run, with the gradual maturity of the industry, the enterprises with leading technology and technology will stand out.
In the White Paper on the Development of waste Lithium-ion Battery Recycling and disassembly and echelon Utilization Industry in China (2022), EVTank makes a detailed research and analysis on the waste lithium-ion battery recycling industry chain, relevant policy qualifications and standard system, different recycling processes, business models and economic benefits, recycling volume, price and market scale of waste lithium-ion batteries, and the competition pattern of recycling and disassembly and echelon utilization enterprises. It also analyzes the representative enterprises of the enterprises in the industry, such as Bang Pu, Green Mei, Huayou and Saedmei and so on. On this basis, EVTank makes a forward-looking forecast and judgment on the recycling, disassembly and echelon utilization of used lithium-ion batteries in the world and China.
