A Brief Look at Top 10 Global Power Battery Producers in Terms of Installed Capacity in January 2022

SHANGHAI, Mar 4 (SMM) – SNE Research, a South Korean market research institution, has released the ranking of the top 10 global power battery producers in terms of installed capacity in January 2022.

SHANGHAI, Mar 4 (SMM) – SNE Research, a South Korean market research institution, has released the ranking of the top 10 global power battery producers in terms of installed capacity in January 2022.  The data showed that the global installed capacity of power batteries was 25.7GWh in January 2022, an increase of 87% year-on-year, and the growth momentum was strong.

There were big changes in both market share and ranking of the top 10 producers. 

The top 10 companies were CATL, BYD, Panasonic, LG Energy Solution, China Lithium Battery Technology, SK On, Guoxuan Hi-Tech, Samsung SDI, SVOLT Energy Technology, and EVE Energy.

CATL, which topped the list, dominated a global market share of 37.8% in January, which was 5.2 percentage points higher than 32.6% in 2021. BYD moved up two places from 2021 to the second place, which represented 13.7% of the global market share in January, 4.9 percentage points higher than 8.8% in 2021.

CATL’s dominance was unshakable both in the domestic market and in the international market. Since 2022, CATL has expanded its capacity rapidly and extended its industry chain towards the upstream raw materials.

BYD

Under the support of booming new energy vehicle sales, the installed capacity of BYD's power batteries has grown by leaps and bounds. It is worth noting that BYD is accelerating its supply of power batteries to other companies.

It was reported that BYD’s blade battery output may increase to 90-100 GWh in 2022.
