SHANGHAI, Mar 2 (SMM) - Recently Russia and Ukraine went to war which threw the world into concerns and uncertainties. Behind the contest of strength between the two sides, the landscape in different industries of the world has changed unconsciously.

NICKEL – one of the most important raw materials in new energy industry – may experience shocks in terms of supply

The United States and the European Union launched economic sanctions against Russia one after another starting from February 24. Russia, as a major global metal resource country, accounts for 49% of global nickel exports.

From the perspective of new energy power batteries, high nickel and low cobalt is an extremely obvious trend. NMC 811 or even ultra-high nickel lithium batteries have become the future development orientation of many power battery suppliers such as CATL. Nickel cannot be replaced for a short period of time in terms of improving energy density. If the supply of nickel metal in Russia is affected or even interrupted, the supply of power batteries will drop. The shortage of raw materials for power batteries will inevitably raise the costs, which will without doubt have an impact on the development of new energy vehicles.

CHIP is unable to stay impervious to the current geopolitical tensions

Chips have been a major factor that constrains the development of new energy vehicles. The current Russian-Ukrainian war has not only destroyed the Ukrainian military armed forces, but has also dealt a major blow to its industry. Ukraine produces 90% of the neon that supplies the United States. The supply of inert gas elements like neon, krypton and xenon that are essential for laser devices used in chip production, and the Russian-Ukrainian war will lead to a shortage in the supply of inert gases such as neon, which may exacerbate the chip shortage problem.

The supply of raw materials for battery has been impacted, while car chip supply encounters even more difficulties. Generally speaking, the development of new energy vehicles may be further restricted because of the current conflicts.

Although the war is very far from us which only brings a new story to the stock market and a twist to the new energy sector, war is cruel. Let us think of danger in peace and cherish peace.

Baota Mountain Converter Station's AC System Energized, Marking Key Milestone in UHV Project
On February 5, the AC system of the Baota Mountain Converter Station, the sending - end station of the ±800 kV North Shaanxi - Anhui UHV DC power transmission project, was successfully energized for the first time. This marks that the AC system of the converter station has entered the startup commissioning stage, and the entire AC system of the project is expected to be put into operation before the Spring Festival. It is reported that the rated voltage of the North Shaanxi - Anhui UHV project is ±800 kV, with a rated capacity of 8 million kilowatts, and a dynamic investment of 20.5 billion yuan. The project starts from the Baota Mountain Converter Station in Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province, and ends at the Hezhou Converter Station in Hefei City, Anhui Province. It passes through three provi

World's First Multi-Source DC Project in Jiangsu Completes Phase II, Boosts Cross-River Power Transmission
On February 12, the second - phase project of the ±200 kV DC power transmission project from Yangzhou to Zhenjiang in Jiangsu, which is the world's first multi - source commutated DC power transmission project and China's first AC - DC hybrid cross - river project, was completed and put into operation. The project's transmission line is about 228 kilometers long, with a transmission capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts. It passes through three cities (Huai'an, Yangzhou, and Zhenjiang) and seven counties. Among them, a 47 - kilometer new - built DC transmission line is erected on the same tower as the 500 kV AC line, and two new converter stations are built. Without adding a new cross - Yangtze - River power transmission channel, the original cross - river power transmission capacity has been

Shaanxi Boosts Power Capacity to 127GW, Invests in Grid and Renewable Energy Growth
It is learned that Shaanxi Province's power generation installed capacity has increased from 72.75 million kilowatts in 2020 to 127 million kilowatts in 2025, with the installed capacity of renewable energy growing by about 2.7 times. Meanwhile, the province has invested a total of 120 billion yuan to strengthen the power grid and expand transmission channels, making the power grid more robust and reliable. Statistics show that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Shaanxi put into operation over 10 million kilowatts of clean and efficient coal-fired power generation capacity, and the scale of coal-fired power projects under construction that meet regulations reached a record high for the same period. The total scale of coal-fired power plants undergoing energy-saving and carbon-reduction
