Umicor recently announced that it has signed an agreement with Automotive Cells Company (ACC) to provide battery recycling services for ACC's pilot plant in Nersac, France.
According to the data, ACC was established in August 2020 with the goal of becoming a leader in the European automotive battery market. Umicor has an early presence in the field of rechargeable battery recycling, with an annual production capacity of 7000 tons of lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries and battery waste, equivalent to 35000 (EV) batteries for electric vehicles, at its battery recycling plant in Hoboken, Belgium. The plant, which began operating in 2011, is used to handle portable electronics batteries and first-generation electric vehicle batteries.
Umico said that in 2022, the company will launch a new generation of proprietary recovery technology, which will improve the metallurgical process and improve the extraction efficiency of cobalt, nickel and copper, with a recovery rate of 95%, which can be applied to a variety of battery chemicals and will be put on the market in 2022.
