According to foreign media reports, Mercedes-Benz production director Joerg Burzer said in an interview that Mercedes-Benz expects some production lines in its plant to be completely transformed into electric vehicle production lines in the next few years, and will have factories specializing in electric vehicles between 2025 and 2030.
"it takes a long time to build a brand new factory that specializes in electric cars, so we took a different approach." Burzer said, "in the next few years, we will definitely have some production lines that only produce electric cars." By 2025 to 2030, we will also see the entire factory transformed into an electric car factory. "
Last September, Mercedes-Benz announced at the Munich auto show (IAA Mobility show) that the EQE, would go into production in (Bremen) in Bremen, Germany, later this year, followed by production in Beijing and (Tuscaloosa) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The EQE is the electric version of the E-class model with a maximum mileage of 660km. Mercedes-Benz is shifting investment from internal combustion engine cars to electric car production platforms, betting that the model will boost its electric car sales. "as we launch EQE, in Bremen and Beijing, we will deliver more vehicles in the segment of the car," Burzer said.
Pure electric vehicles accounted for only 2.3% of Mercedes-Benz's sales last year, while plug-in hybrids accounted for 11%. Mercedes-Benz predicts that by 2025, pure electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles will account for up to 50% of sales, with pure electric vehicles accounting for the majority.
Mercedes-Benz factories that produce existing electric models also produce internal combustion engine models, and Mercedes-Benz transports batteries by rail from Germany's main (Sindelfingen) plant in Sinderfengen to factories in Germany and Hungary.
Burzer said that with the further development of car design, batteries will be more closely integrated into the car, so battery assembly and production may be closer to the car factory.
