Mitsubishi Gas Chemical will build a new semiconductor cleaning solution plant in mainland China, according to Japanese media reports. The product is used to remove small impurities in the production process of semiconductors.
Mitsubishi Gas Chemical occupies the first place with about 50% share in the global market. In recent years, with the continuous practicality of the new generation communication network and the popularity of the Internet of things ((IoT)), the global demand for semiconductors is very strong. Mitsubishi Gas Chemical will strengthen the supply system of related products and seize the expanding demand.
The new plant in mainland China is scheduled to start production in the first half of 2022 at the earliest, and the amount of investment has not been disclosed. The new plant produces ultra-pure hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is generally used in disinfectant, etc., and ultra-pure hydrogen peroxide can be produced by improving its purity. In the production process of semiconductors, it is necessary to remove small impurities without destroying the micro-semiconductor structure, which can not be used as a cleaning solution without ultra-pure hydrogen peroxide. The product is also used in grinding and etching processes.
Mainland China is expected to have an annual production capacity of 90,000 tons to capture the growing local demand in the semiconductor industry. Mitsubishi Gas Chemistry has begun to produce ultra-pure hydrogen peroxide in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the United States, Singapore and other countries and regions. Together with the production capacity of mainland China, the overall annual global production capacity will increase by 16 per cent to 644000 tons.
According to reports, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical has about 50% share of the global ultra-pure hydrogen peroxide market. It is also scheduled to open a new raw material plant in Taiwan as early as 2023 and promote the plan to establish an one-stop production system there, and great efforts are being made to improve the supply chain.
