Some time ago, global crystal (GlobalWafers) 's plan to buy a stake in German peer Siltronic (Siltronic) for 4.35 billion euros failed because it failed to obtain timely approval from German regulators, which also triggered a knock-on effect.

According to reports, sources revealed that TSMC, which originally said that it was still at a "very early stage" to set up a factory in Germany, may not succeed in Global Crystal's acquisition of Siltronic, and the location of the new plant in Europe will turn to the Czech Republic.

However, with regard to the relevant rumors, TSMC said that it would not comment on whether the failure of the global global crystal merger and acquisition would affect the company's investment in Germany, emphasizing that TSMC's overseas layout would certainly take customer considerations as the main evaluation factor. as for the German plant plan, it maintains the previous argument of "staying at a very early stage of evaluation". As for whether to switch to the Czech Republic to set up factories, TSMC said that its overseas layout has never ruled out the possibility of any location.

According to reports at the end of last year, TSMC began initial negotiations with the German government on the construction of a local plant in Germany.

Lora Ho, senior vice president of TSMC's Eurasian sales, has said that various factors, including government subsidies, customer demand and talent pool, will affect TSMC's final decision.

It is understood that this plan is aimed at (European Chips Act), the European Chip Act to be introduced by the European Union next year. The bill will help Europe increase semiconductor chip production and aims to reach 20% of global chip production by 2030. According to previous data released by IC Insights, European wafer production accounted for only 5.7 per cent of the world's production capacity in 2020.
