According to foreign media reports, Tesla Model 3 will become the best-selling electric car in Europe in 2021. With the shortage of semiconductors and the blockade of the epidemic, electric vehicles have become a bright spot in the industry.
In the field of electric vehicles, Tesla Model 3 pushed Renault Zoe out of the top spot of electric vehicles. Tesla Model 3 also rose from 41st in 2020 to 17th in the overall ranking of European best-selling cars in 2021, surpassing some of the most popular models, such as the Volkswagen Touguan (Tiguan) and Peugeot 3008 SUV, according to JATO Dynamics, an analysis firm.
The rise of Tesla contrasts sharply with the decline of traditional car darlings such as Volkswagen Golf (Golf). Volkswagen Golf has seen the biggest drop in market share, but it has long maintained its position as Europe's best-selling car.
Last September, the Tesla Model 3 briefly became the best-selling car in Europe, beating the Volkswagen Golf and other common best-selling models of internal combustion engines, and it was the first time that electric cars overtook diesel locomotives to become the best-selling car in Europe.
The Volkswagen ID.3 all-electric compact hatchback launched in 2020 failed to replicate Tesla's success and ranked 53rd among the overall cars.
Overall car sales in the UK fell to 11.8 million in 2021, the lowest level since 1985. Felipe Munoz, an analyst at JATO, said: "crisis after crisis has had a negative impact on demand and registration in the car market. The continuing uncertainty of the COVID-19 epidemic, coupled with a long-term shortage of semiconductors, is a perfect storm for the automotive industry. "
Carmakers, including Volkswagen and Stellantis, are spending billions on a range of plug-in hybrid and battery-driven cars, while consumers are responding to generous subsidies for electric vehicles that help the transport industry reduce emissions. JATO predicts that by 2022, sales of electric cars in the UK will surpass those of diesel cars.
In the ever-changing market, new challengers are emerging. Hyundai Kia's market share in Europe increased by nearly two percentage points to 8.6 per cent in 2021, thanks mainly to its SUV and electric models, JATO said.
