On January 16th, Norde shares announced that the company and the Tieshan District people's Government of Huangshi Economic and technological Development Zone, Huangshi City, Hubei Province (hereinafter referred to as "Huangshi Economic Development Zone") intend to sign the "Project Investment contract". Invest in the construction of a new production base of 100000 tons of copper foil materials in Norde. Nord shares said that the project has good market prospects and development space, in response to the urgent needs of the market, is expected to promote the faster development of the enterprise.

It is reported that the new production base for copper foil materials is planned to be built in two phases, of which, the first phase is planned to build a production line of 50,000 tons of high-end lithium copper foil and 5G high-frequency high-speed circuit boards with standard copper foil and 100000 tons of copper-based materials, and the first phase is planned to start construction before April 2022 and is expected to be put into production before June 2023; the second phase will start construction in time according to market supply and demand. After all the projects are completed and reach production, it can form an annual output of 100000 tons of high-end lithium copper foil and 5G high-frequency high-speed circuit board standard copper foil project, 200000 tons / year copper-based material production capacity.

Battery China has learned that in 2021, Nuode Qinghai Node II (fixed increase investment project 15000 tons, 6um and 6um below the very thin copper foil) and Huizhou 12000 ton expansion projects are also in steady progress, and the company aims to achieve an overall copper foil production capacity of 70, 000 tons by 2022. After the above projects are completed and put into production in the future, it is expected to greatly increase the overall copper foil production capacity of the company.

With the rapid development of new energy vehicles and energy storage market, power batteries and energy storage batteries have developed rapidly in 2021, leading to a substantial increase in the demand for upstream lithium materials. Industry data show that there has been a continuous shortage of copper foil since September 2020. From the point of view of the supply side, the overall expansion speed of the copper foil industry is difficult to keep up with the upstream and downstream expansion rhythm, and the equipment needed for copper foil expansion mainly depends on imports, which leads to a new production expansion cycle of at least 2 years.

On the other hand, from the power battery technology iteration point of view, in order to improve the battery energy density, the current head customers begin to import all 6um or even 4.5um copper foil, due to the demand for new products appear "blowout", the product gap is huge.

Based on the market demand prospect, production expansion cycle and product iteration trend, lithium copper foil head enterprises have also stepped up the future production capacity layout. The 100,000-ton scale of the planned construction of Nord shares may be based on the prediction of the explosive growth of the power and energy storage market in the next few years.
