[2021 Power Battery load TOP10 released! On January 12, the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance released power battery data for December 2021 and the whole year of 2021. In terms of production, from January to December 2021, China's power battery output totaled 219.7 GWH, an increase of 163.4% over the same period last year. Among them, the output of ternary batteries totaled 93.9GWh, accounting for 42.7 percent of the total output, an increase of 93.6 percent over the same period last year; the output of lithium iron phosphate batteries totaled 125.4GWh, accounting for 57.1 percent of the total output, an increase of 262.9 percent over the same period last year.

On January 12, China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance (referred to as "Battery Alliance") released power battery data for December 2021 and the whole year of 2021.

Overview of annual data for 2021

In terms of production, from January to December 2021, China's power battery output totaled 219.7 GWH, an increase of 163.4% over the same period last year. Among them, the output of ternary batteries totaled 93.9GWh, accounting for 42.7 percent of the total output, an increase of 93.6 percent over the same period last year; the output of lithium iron phosphate batteries totaled 125.4GWh, accounting for 57.1 percent of the total output, an increase of 262.9 percent over the same period last year.

In other words, from the annual point of view, the output of lithium iron phosphate battery is more 31.5GWh than that of ternary battery.

In terms of sales, from January to December 2021, the cumulative sales of power batteries in China reached 186.0 GWH, an increase of 182.3% over the same period last year. Of these, the cumulative sales of ternary batteries were 79.6 GWh, an increase of 128.9 percent over the same period last year, and the cumulative sales of lithium iron phosphate batteries were 106.0 GWh, an increase of 245.0 percent over the same period last year.

In other words, from the annual point of view, the sales volume of lithium iron phosphate battery is more 26.4GWh than that of ternary battery.

In terms of loading capacity, from January to December 2021, China's power battery loading totaled 154.5 GWH, an increase of 142.8% over the same period last year. Among them, the total loading of ternary batteries was 74.3 GWH, accounting for 48.1% of the total loading, an increase of 91.3% over the same period last year; and the total loading of lithium iron phosphate batteries was 79.8 GWH, accounting for 51.7% of the total loading, an increase of 227.4% over the same period last year.

That is to say, from the annual point of view, the loading capacity of lithium iron phosphate battery is more 5.54GWh than that of ternary battery.

In other words, no matter from the production point of view, or from the sales volume, or even from the loading volume, lithium iron phosphate battery has achieved a comprehensive transcendence of the ternary battery!

From January to December 2021, a total of 58 power battery enterprises have been installed in China's new energy vehicle market, 13 fewer than the same period last year.

The companies of TOP10 installed by domestic power battery enterprises from January to December in 2021 are: Ningde era, BYD, China New Airlines, Guoxuan Hi-Tech, LG New Energy, Honeycomb Energy, Yiwei Lithium Energy, Tafel New Energy, Funeng Technology, Xinwanda.

As can be seen from the above picture, the power battery loads of the top 3, the top 5 and the top 10 power battery companies are 114.6GWh, 128.9GWh and 142.5GWhh respectively, accounting for 74.2%, 83.4% and 92.2% of the total load, respectively.

Vike Lithium believes that China's lithium battery industry four giants Ningde era, BYD, China New Airlines, Guoxuan Hi-Tech have their own characteristics, stable position, these four enterprises happen to rank in the top four, this situation will be maintained for a long time.

In terms of LG new energy, it is undeniable that it is strong in the international market, but in the Chinese market, it is inevitable that the ranking will continue to decline because of its weakness in the second half of 2021.

Honeycomb Energy, Yiwei Lithium Energy and Xin Wanda are already the guests of the monthly global TOP10, with a strong momentum of development. Tafel New Energy, Funeng Technology and other companies that did not enter this year's list, such as Ripu Energy, Lishen, Jiewei Power, etc., are also full of stamina!

December 2021 data at a glance

In terms of production, in December 2021, China's power battery output totaled 31.6 GWH, an increase of 109.0% over the same period last year and 12.0% month-on-month growth. Of these, the output of ternary batteries was 11.4 GWH, up 34.6% from the same period last year and 10.1% from the previous year; and the output of lithium iron phosphate batteries was 20.1 GWH, up 207.7% from the same period last year, up 12.7% from the previous year.

In terms of sales, in December 2021, China's power battery sales totaled 35.5 GWH, an increase of 190.5% over the same period last year. Among them, the sales of ternary batteries were 11.8%, up 82.2% from the same period last year, accounting for 33.4% of the total sales; lithium iron phosphate battery sales were 23.5%, up 320.2% from the same period last year, accounting for 66.2% of the total sales.

In terms of loading capacity, in December 2021, the installed capacity of power batteries in China was 26.2GWH, an increase of 102.4% over the same period last year and 25.9% month-on-month growth. Among them, the total loading of ternary batteries was 11.1GWh, an increase of 84.7 percent over the same period last year and 19.7 percent from the previous year; lithium iron phosphate batteries totaled 15.1 GWhs, up 118.5 percent from the same period last year and 30.1 percent from the previous year.

In December 2021, a total of 47 power battery enterprises were installed in China's new energy vehicle market, 2 fewer than the same period last year.

December 2021 domestic power battery enterprises installed TOP10 enterprises are: Ningde era, BYD, China New Airlines, Guoxuan Hi-Tech, LG New Energy, Honeycomb Energy, Tafel New Energy, Funeng Technology, Xinwanda, Yiwei Lithium Energy.

As can be seen from the above picture, the top three, the top five and the top 10 power battery companies loaded 19.9GWh, 22.2GWh and 24.5GWH respectively, accounting for 75.8%, 84.5% and 93.4% of the total installed capacity, respectively.

As can be seen from the comparison between the monthly ranking and the annual ranking, Yiwei LiNeng's annual ranking is 7th, but December's ranking is 10th.

The three companies, Tafel New Energy, Funeng Technology and Xinwanda, each rose one place.

This week, the industry chain continued to diverge. On the lithium side, lithium carbonate drifted lower, but downstream stockpiling willingness near 140,000 yuan/mt remained strong, providing support for prices. Lithium ore pulled back accordingly, though overseas supply disruptions and mines holding prices firm kept ore prices relatively resilient. Lithium hydroxide was affected by reduced ternary orders, with transactions remaining weak. The materials segment was under pressure overall, with ternary cathode precursors, ternary cathode materials, and LCO continuing to weaken due to raw material pullbacks and insufficient end-use demand. China production schedules declined somewhat, while overseas high-nickel orders remained relatively good. LFP demand stayed robust, with production and sales holding at high levels. Iron phosphate orders increased, and prices edged up. Anode prices were broadly stable, with artificial graphite still having upside room supported by peak-season production schedules and cost support. High-end separator specifications saw tight supply-demand, with expectations of future price increases. Electrolyte cost support strengthened, with short-term stability for now. Sodium-ion batteries remained constrained by insufficient effective anode and cathode capacity, while the recycling market continued to remain under pressure amid raw material price fluctuations.

The industry chain remained weak overall this week, with price centers generally moving lower. Upstream, reports of low-price raw material transactions increased, and the market stalemate showed signs of easing. Midstream, cost support for salts continued to weaken, and some enterprises, affected by funding and inventory pressure, proactively cut prices to sell, further dragging down market sentiment. Downstream, demand recovery fell significantly short of expectations, with orders for ternary cathode precursors, ternary cathode materials, and LCO all revised downward to varying degrees. Enterprises generally maintained cautious purchasing and destocking strategies, and September production schedules were broadly under pressure. Meanwhile, overseas orders for high-nickel materials remained at a relatively high level, serving as one of the few supportive factors. On the end-user side, NEV production and sales in August continued to grow YoY, but peak-season stockpiling had yet to clearly transmit to the materials segment. In the short term, under the combined effects of falling costs, elevated inventory, and weak demand, most products still lack clear momentum for stabilization, and prices are expected to remain in the doldrums. Going forward, attention should focus on Q4 order improvements, the pace of end-user stockpiling, and the release of low-priced supply.

Tartisan Outlines Development Path for Kenbridge Nickel-Copper-Cobalt Project, Advances Pre-PFS Preparation
According to Tartisan Nickel on September 10, the company has outlined the next-stage development plan for its Kenbridge nickel-copper-cobalt project in Ontario, Canada, and will gradually advance preparations toward a pre-feasibility study (PFS). Upcoming work will focus on a second phase of drilling, engineering and metallurgical studies, as well as environmental and infrastructure assessments. The next drilling program will incorporate recent borehole electromagnetic survey results to test potential extensions of the mineralized zones and support further resource expansion. Kenbridge is 100%-owned by Tartisan and is one of the representative nickel-copper-cobalt polymetallic projects in northwestern Ontario. The company plans to use further drilling and technical studies to refine the geological model, mining plan and project economics, while generating the data required for a future PFS. No new cobalt resource estimate or cobalt grade was disclosed in this update. However, the project is gradually moving from resource exploration toward more systematic engineering development and PFS preparation, marking a new stage in its commercialization progress.
