China is the world's largest producer of refined copper and copper processing materials, as well as the largest consumer of copper. In 2021, domestic demand for industrial products surged, the market faced structural supply shortages, global energy shortages and shipping tensions were added, commodities entered a bull market cycle, and Lun copper reached an all-time high, rising by more than 25% at one point this year. However, throughout the copper industry chain, the profits brought by the rise in copper prices have not been effectively transmitted downstream. With the frequent overseas copper recycling policy in the second half of the year, a large number of expanded production capacity has greatly increased the demand for scrap copper, the price gap of refined copper has been narrowing in the process of bidding by buyers, the profits of waste enterprises have been continuously compressed, and their survival situation is worrying. Processing materials and terminals are already in serious overcapacity, market competition in the case of thin profits, copper prices led to an increase in the cost of capital to make enterprises worse, become a victim in the process of rising prices, in 2021 under the support of export orders to maintain year-on-year growth; the whole industry chain is facing their own problems, how will the copper market and copper prices change in 2022? In order to better promote the development of the domestic copper industry chain, the 2022 17th International Copper Industry Summit hosted by SMM will be held from April 25 to 28 to clear up the market fog for colleagues in the industry and jointly plan a new blueprint for the development of the copper industry.
