IC Insights: expects global semiconductor sales to grow by another 11% this year.

Total global semiconductor sales in 2022 are expected to grow 11% to a record $680.6 billion, according to the McLean report released by semiconductor research company IC Insights on Thursday.

According to the report, total global semiconductor sales surged 25% in 2021, which may slow in 2022, but will still reach 11%. If the final forecast is true, 2022 will be the third consecutive year of double-digit growth.

In terms of itemized data, integrated circuit sales are expected to grow 11% in 2022 to an all-time high of $565.1 billion, while optoelectronics, sensor / brake and discrete device (O-S-D) sales are also expected to grow 11% to reach an all-time high of $115.5 billion.

The report points out that during 2021, shipments of many widely used semiconductor products were unable to keep up with the growing demand, with the purchase of integrated circuits rising by 22% and the purchase of O-S-D equipment by 20%, both of which were astonishing growth. Over the past decade, the two figures have averaged 7.4% and 4.7%, respectively.

The report predicts that more than 1.3 trillion semiconductor devices are expected to be purchased in 2022, including about 432 billion integrated circuits and 889.3 billion O-S-D devices, both of which will grow by more than 10 per cent.
