According to foreign media reports, Panasonic announced that it will purchase copper foil made from recycled materials from Redwood Materials, which will be used to produce batteries in its super factory in Nevada, (Gigafactory).

It is worth mentioning that JB Straubel, founder of Redwood and co-founder of Tesla, will eventually use battery materials purchased by Panasonic in Tesla's vehicles.

Straubel left Tesla in 2019 to work full-time at Redwood. At that time, Tesla's fans were very disappointed with his departure because the engineer was crucial to the company's technical success. But it was also suggested at the time that Redwood might work with Tesla in the future to help the electric car maker solve some supply problems.

Although Redwood and Tesla have not yet started working together directly, Panasonic has become a "informant" for the two companies. At CES 2022, Allan Swan, president of Panasonic North America, announced: "by the end of this year, we will begin to incorporate copper foil produced by Redwood from recycled materials into battery production." Panasonic will use the copper foil in its super factory in Nevada, and the cells produced from it will eventually be used in Tesla cars. Redwood confirmed in a statement that it plans to start producing anode copper foil in the first half of this year. To put it simply, starting this year, Redwood will play a role in Tesla's supply chain. With the rapid increase of Tesla electric vehicle production, its supply chain is also growing rapidly.

Redwood, headquartered in Nevada, develops new material recycling processes, mainly for electric car batteries. The company recently announced that it would also be involved in the production of cathodes and anodes and build a battery material plant in the United States with a capacity of 100 GWh. Redwood is gradually becoming a full-cycle battery material company. Redwood recently completed a $775 million round of financing to accelerate its growth, and they have teamed up with Ford to help it build a battery supply chain.
