On December 27, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the General Administration of Market Supervision examined and confirmed the list of enterprises that meet the requirements for applying for export licenses for automobile and motorcycle products in 2022. The list shows that there are a total of 434 enterprises that meet the requirements for applying for automobile export licenses in 2022. Among them, there are 61 passenger car enterprises.

Strong industrial competitiveness is driving the export of Chinese automobile enterprises to achieve a new round of rapid growth.

Data show that China's auto export market has continued to improve since 2017, with positive growth of 6% in 2018 and 2019. Affected by the epidemic, car exports fell by 13% in 2020. According to the General Administration of Customs, in November, China's vehicle exports were about 217000, up 69.5 percent from January to November, while vehicle exports reached 1.928 million, an increase of 101.9 percent over the same period last year.

However, the sustained growth of vehicle exports is also the result of the transformation and adjustment of the domestic automobile industry. The reporter combed the list of export license enterprises in 2022 and found that although the total number of export enterprises in 2022 was the same as that in 2021, the reduced four passenger car export enterprises were all vehicle production enterprises that had been restructured in bankruptcy or had been taken over by the local government. Among them, brilliance was almost wiped out except brilliance BMW and Huachen Renault Cup, while Zhongtai, Hanteng, Cheetah Motors, and Bowo Motors, which were acquired by the Shenzhou Department and are now in prison, were also removed.

In the view of industry insiders, now that the era of lying down and winning is over, it will be difficult for marginal car companies that are difficult to improve in the traditional car field and refuse to transform into new energy vehicles. "with the promotion of the market and policy, China's automobile brands have developed rapidly, while automobile exports have doubled, which is closely related to the outbreak of new energy vehicle products."

From January to November, China's exports of new energy vehicles reached 291000, an increase of 189.9 percent over the same period last year, according to the China Automobile Association. Among them, in November, the export volume of new energy vehicles reached 37000, contributing to the growth rate of 32.9%.

"through the Energy Saving and New Energy vehicle Industry Development Plan (2012-2020), China's new energy vehicle industry has gradually developed, and its products are becoming more and more mature, widely recognized by consumers in China, and speeding up 'going out'." Xu Haidong, deputy chief engineer of China Automobile Industry Association, said.

It is worth noting that due to the rapid development of the European new energy vehicle market as a whole, Chinese car companies have begun to actively expand the European market since last year. Take Geely Automobile as an example, from January to November this year, Geely's Lecker brand delivered a total of 4380 cars to European customers in a subscription mode, and the Lock brand exported 10702 vehicles to the European market; in the second half of this year, Lecker's "Asia Pacific Plan" kicked off, and Lecker 01 also completed its listing in Kuwait. In addition, BYD, China FAW and Xilai have all focused on the Norwegian market this year.

Cui Dongshu said that this year, vehicle exports are mainly in Chile, Saudi Arabia, Australia and other markets, Russia, Sweden and Australia market performance is also strong, and even Belgium has become an incremental core market. "this has changed the passive situation of relying on car exports from some underdeveloped and unregulated countries, such as Asia and Africa."

Fu Bingfeng, executive vice president and secretary-general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, judged that the new energy vehicle market has entered a new stage of explosive growth and has shifted from policy-driven to market-driven. "it is estimated that exports are expected to exceed 2 million vehicles in 2021."

"the penetration of new energy vehicles in the global mainstream market is expected to break through the 10% threshold in 2022 and enter the steep phase of the S-shaped growth curve." According to CICC, China is one of the main markets and producers of new energy vehicles in the world, and the penetration rates of China's new energy passenger vehicles are expected to reach 30 per cent, 61 per cent and 90 per cent in 2025, 2030 and 2050, respectively. From a big automobile country to an automobile power, Chinese car companies are expected to enjoy the dividends of energy transformation, industrial upgrading and technological innovation, and realize the globalization of Chinese brands.
