SHANGHAI, Dec 22 (SMM) – According to customs statistics, China’s exports of prebaked anode soared by 63.3% MoM and 178.1% YoY to 234,100 mt in November, hitting the highest level in 2021.

However, the average export price only increased by 2.08%, which was far less than the increase in the domestic benchmark price by 440 yuan/mt in November.

Shangdong remained the largest export province in November, with the export volume at 171,300 mt, accounting for 73% of the total monthly output, and the proportion was 2 percentage points lower than that in October. Jiangsu exported 20,400 mt in November, accounting for about 9% of the exports.

Malaysia remained the largest importer of the prebaked anode from China, which purchased 82,900 mt, accounting for about 36% of the total exports.

The Russian Federation also saw a sharp increase in purchases, ranking second among the importer with a purchase volume of about 42,500 mt, accounting for 18% of the total export volume.

The overseas aluminium smelters are actively importing prebaked anode for the production in the next few months, as China’s prebaked anode producers are expected to reduce the production for heating season and the upcoming CNY holiday.

According to SMM survey, the output of prebaked anode is expected to drop by 46,000 mt in December. SMM will continue to monitor the domestic production of prebaked anode and operating rates of overseas aluminium smelters.
