BYD, together with British bus manufacturer partner Alexander Dennis (ADL), delivered a total of 21 pure electric buses to two public transport operators in Scotland on December 14, local time, to create a green transport system and accelerate Scotland to achieve the net zero emission target in the transport sector.
Of these buses, 12 pure electric double-decker buses, operated by operator Xplore Dundee, are placed on bus route 28 in Dundee, Scotland's fourth largest city. The line passes through some pollution control streets, and these pure electric buses will effectively improve the traffic environment of the city. The remaining nine pure electric single-decker buses, operated by Stagecoach, the UK's largest bus operator, will be launched on busy bus routes 1 and 2 in the central Scottish city of Perth, running through the city centre, the royal hospital and major residential areas.
The vehicle for this delivery is produced in Folkirk (Falkirk), a local plant in Scotland, with BYD providing chassis, battery and core drive technology, and ADL to create a lightweight body.
It is worth mentioning that the vehicles are supported by the Scottish government's Ultra-low Emission bus Scheme, which aims to encourage bus operators to purchase zero-emission buses and invest in related infrastructure, accelerate the transformation of the local public transport system to electrification, and help create a zero-emission green Scotland by 2045.
Scottish Transport Minister Graeme Dey said: "We are looking forward to the launch of this new batch of pure electric buses and the ultra-low emission bus scheme will encourage operators to invest in greener fleets and support green change in Scotland so that more people can experience zero-emission, pollution-free travel."
A month ago, BYD's pure electric bus served as an officially designated shuttle bus to government leaders and delegates at the 26th United Nations Climate change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland. So far, BYD pure electric buses have a footprint in more than 10 cities in the UK, with a cumulative mileage of more than 40 million kilometers, equivalent to reducing carbon emissions by 40, 000 tons.
Frank Thorpe, General Manager of BYD UK, said: "it is a great honor that our new pure electric bus will serve the citizens of Dundee and Perth, bringing a relaxed and comfortable electric bus experience. BYD will continue to provide clean, safe and comfortable pure electric bus products and related solutions to help build a green transportation system. "
