[production expansion and growth rate Tesla Shanghai Super Factory will have an annual output of more than 1 million vehicles] A few days ago, the environmental information disclosure platform of Shanghai enterprises and institutions showed that Tesla is conducting an environmental assessment announcement on the production line optimization project of the second phase of the Shanghai super factory project (phase I). A few days ago, according to the environmental information disclosure platform of Shanghai enterprises and institutions, Tesla is conducting an environmental impact assessment on the production line optimization project of the second phase of the Shanghai super factory project (Phase I). The report shows that the project, with a total investment of 1.2 billion yuan, is expected to start in December and be completed as soon as April next year.

Tesla estimates that after the completion of the optimization and expansion of the production line at this stage, 4000 jobs will be created, bringing the total number of employees of the Shanghai super factory to 19000. The most important thing is that its production is expected to reach 10-1.5 million vehicles, achieving the goal of the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturer.

It is reported that Tesla's production model in the Shanghai Super Factory remains unchanged from that before the expansion, and still maintains the production of Model 3 and Model Y and related derivative models.

From the early days of its establishment to the present, the capacity of the Shanghai super factory has continued to increase. Initially, the plant's productivity target was 3000 vehicles a week (about 156000 vehicles a year), then increased to 250000 vehicles a year, then increased significantly to 550000 vehicles a year, and is expected to exceed 1 million vehicles in April next year. Tesla's total delivery this year is likely to be close to the 1 million mark, thanks in large part to increased capacity at the Shanghai superfactories Model Y and Model 3, according to teslarati's Simon Alvarez.

Specific figures show that Tesla Shanghai Super Factory produced 25864 Model Y and 24394 Model 3s respectively in September 2021, totaling 50258 vehicles. In the third quarter of 2021, Tesla said that the Shanghai super factory has a potential annual production capacity of more than 450000 vehicles (Model 3 and Model Y)).

As early as September 2020, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, said on personal social media that global sales of new pure electric vehicles will reach 30 million by 2030, of which Tesla will sell 20 million. At the 2021 shareholder meeting two months ago, Musk re-emphasized the fiag of "selling 20 million vehicles a year in 2030."

According to Tesla's third-quarter data, Tesla delivered more than 240000 cars in that quarter, an increase of 73% over the same period last year. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) is as high as 71%. But if the target of selling 20 million vehicles a year by 2030 is to be achieved, based on the standard of 800000 vehicles delivered in four quarters, it means that Tesla needs to achieve an average annual compound growth rate of 43 per cent over the next nine years, or 43 per cent annual sales growth. But in an increasingly competitive market, this is not an easy task.

"Tesla's demand is not a problem, but production capacity simply can't keep up," Musk once said. Indeed, whether for Tesla or other energy companies, production capacity seems to be a problem in front of us.

Some analysts in the industry pointed out that the adjustment of Tesla's Shanghai super factory shows that the demand for Model Y models in the Chinese market is growing. And the long-term goal of achieving annual sales of 20 million electric cars within 10 years means that in addition to expanding capacity in the Shanghai super factory, it is urgent for Tesla to seek a second factory in China.

In fact, after Tesla's Shanghai super factory, there was a lot of discussion about the location of Tesla's second factory in China, and it was concluded that it would be located in Qingdao West Coast New area or Shenzhen.

However, Tao Lin, Tesla's global vice president, said on her personal Weibo that the current online information about the location of Tesla's second factory is not true.

And this sentence, I do not know whether it can be understood that only the location information is not true, Tesla is already considering the establishment of a second factory.

It is worth mentioning that Tesla recently recalled some frequently. On November 30th, it applied to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for a recall of 826 Model Ys due to the potential fracture of the steering knuckle connecting rod. Tesla will recall more than 21000 domestic Model Ys, accounting for 1/5 of its domestic sales this year, the State Administration of Market Supervision said on December 3.

In order to ensure the continuous growth of sales and increase production capacity, it is understandable that more attention should be paid to how to control the checkpoint of factory testing. although the recall is responsible to consumers, if the quantity continues to increase, it will also affect Tesla's product strength and brand strength.
