In the large mines in the world, the tonnage that can be exploited every day is huge. According to Miningintelligence, the number one mine in terms of mining tonnage is currently Escondida (Escondida), the world's largest copper mine.

The Escondida copper mine is located in Chile and is owned by BHP Billiton, the world's largest mining company. And Rio Tinto, the second-largest mining company, has a 30 per cent stake in the mine, which produces an average of 360000 tonnes a day. Based on production data for the first three quarters, EsCondida expects to mine 130.78 million tons of copper, silver and gold ore by 2021.

In second place is the Coyahuasi mine (Collahuasi), which is jointly owned by Anglo American and Glencore in Chile. The amount of copper, gold and silver ore mined this year is expected to be 104.65 million tons, a significant increase from the 71.9 million tons mined in 2020.

In third place is First Quantum Minerals's Cobley mine in Panama, (Cobre Panama), which could mine 96.24 million tons of copper, silver, gold and molybdenum, based on production data the Vancouver-based company reported at the end of the third quarter of this year. According to government data, Panama Cobre alone contributes 3.5% of the country's gross domestic product.

Fourth place is the world's top silver producer Southern Copper (Southern Copper) located in Mexico's Buena Vista mine (Buenavista). The mine may mine 72.89 million tons of ore in 2021.

MMG's Bambas copper mine in Peru, (Las Bambas), ranks fifth and is expected to produce 65.26 million tons of copper, silver, gold and molybdenum in 2021. The mine faced community protests this year as residents living nearby blocked a major transport route. The community agreed last month to lift the road blockade after a public meeting with Prime Minister Mirtha Vasquez.

The sixth place is First Quantum Minerals's Sentinel copper-nickel-cobalt mine in Zambia. The company has shelved plans to sell its stake in the Zambian copper mine and Sentinel is expected to mine 56.69 million tonnes of ore this year.

In seventh place is Kaz Minerals's Aktogay copper, silver, gold and molybdenum mine in Kazakhstan, which will mine 53.6 million tons of ore for the year.

Kinross Gold's Paracatu mine in Brazil ranks eighth and is expected to mine 52.46 million tons of ore this year, while BHP Billiton and Glencore rank ninth in Peru's Antamina copper-lead-zinc-molybdenum-silver mine, with nearly 52.45 million tons this year.

In tenth place is Anglo American's Los Bronces copper and molybdenum mine in Chile, which is expected to mine 43.64 million tons of ore in 2021.

It is worth mentioning that the Tefler copper and gold mine in Newcrest, Australia, is expected to have an ore capacity of 40.26 million tons this year, while the Pensaquito gold, silver, lead-zinc mine of Newmont in Mexico is expected to have an ore capacity of 38.4 million tons.
