According to media reports, on the afternoon of November 12, the world's first prototype of 100kWh sodium ion battery digital energy storage system was powered on smoothly, and the prototype was also the first trial-produced energy storage container to complete the power-on test in the new energy storage verification platform of Wulanchabu "source network charge storage" technology research and development test base.

According to media reports, on the afternoon of November 12, the world's first prototype of 100kWh sodium ion battery digital energy storage system was powered on smoothly, and the prototype was also the first trial-produced energy storage container to complete the power-on test in the new energy storage verification platform of Wulanchabu "source network charge storage" technology research and development test base.

It is understood that the 3MW/1.5MWh sodium ion battery digital energy storage system is one of the energy storage projects in the new energy storage verification platform of the Wulanchabu "source network charge storage" technology research and development test base, which is implemented in two phases, the first stage completes the research and development of the 100kWh sodium ion battery digital energy storage prototype, and the second phase completes the research and development of the new sodium ion battery and the 3MW/1.5MWh sodium ion battery digital energy storage system.

The project plans to build the largest sodium ion battery energy storage power station in the world, using power sodium ion battery (more resistant to low temperature environment) for the first time, and combining sodium ion battery technology and digital energy storage technology for the first time.

Vico Lithium noted that sodium batteries used to be at the same starting line as lithium batteries, but they were left behind because the electrode materials of lithium batteries were the first to make a breakthrough and were commercialized by Sony.

Now, the sodium battery has the potential to return, including Ningde era, Shandong Zhanggu, Shengyang shares, Xinwanda, Penghui Energy, Baichuan shares and other enterprises have been vigorously layout.

Why can sodium batteries, which have been silent for a while, be so favored by everyone?

Because the core raw material reserves of sodium battery are higher, and it is less difficult to exploit. By contrast, global reserves of lithium are pitifully small. The data show that the content of lithium in the earth's crust is only 0.0065%, while the content of sodium is 2.75%, and 80% of China's lithium resources are heavily dependent on imports.

The BOM cost of sodium battery is also 20% lower than that of lithium battery, which is lower than that of lithium iron phosphate battery. Moreover, it has excellent high and low temperature performance, high safety in the face of extrusion, puncture and other situations, and has the ability of fast filling.

The reason why sodium batteries do not have the same market position as lithium batteries is that the energy density is not high enough. At present, the cell energy density of sodium battery in the market is generally in the range of 100W / kg to 150W / kg, which is lower than that of 180Wh/kg of lithium iron phosphate battery.

With the rise of the energy storage market, sodium batteries, which have more advantages in safety, cost, high and low temperature performance, have returned.
