Samsung Electronics confirmed today (9) that it has submitted data on its semiconductor supply chain to the US government, excluding sensitive information such as customer information.
"We have submitted semiconductor supply chain data in accordance with the guidelines of the U.S. Department of Commerce," Samsung said, according to Yonhap news agency. "
In late September, the Commerce Department asked major chip companies and automakers to "voluntarily" share business information in response to the global chip crisis, after President Joe Biden issued an executive order to secure and strengthen the supply chain of key U.S. products.
The US government's disclosure requirements immediately raised concerns among chipmakers because they included chip inventory, technology nodes and sensitive trade secrets such as pricing, customers and sales records. Although the US government says information sharing is "voluntary", companies are under pressure to submit information as required.
Us Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo even warned that if companies do not respond to this request, there are other tools in our "toolbox" that require them to provide us with data.
