Global Top 10 Automakers Posted Double-Digit Decline in Sales in September

The global auto market generally continued the downward trend of the previous two months in September, and the decline in sales further expanded. However, the new energy vehicle market performed otherwise. The sales of electric vehicles in various countries have shown steady growth compared with the same period last year and in August.

SHANGHAI, Oct 28 (SMM) – The global auto market generally continued the downward trend of the previous two months in September, and the decline in sales further expanded. However, the new energy vehicle market performed otherwise. The sales of electric vehicles in various countries have shown steady growth compared with the same period last year and in August.

According to data from AutoForecast Solutions, the decline in the global automotive output due to chip shortages reached 2 million units in September alone. At present, the lack of chips is the biggest obstacle for the global auto market.

In China, although automobile output and sales increased month-on-month in September, they showed a double-digit decline year-on-year.

According to the forecasts by JD Power, US car sales in September were approximately 1 million units, a decrease of 25% year-on-year and the lowest level since the same period in 2010.

Under the overall downward trend of the global auto market, the performance of the Indian auto market in recent months has been surprising. In September, India's passenger car sales increased by 16.3% year-on-year, partly because India was more affected by the pandemic during the same period last year.
