Ferrari worked with Apple's former chief designer Jony Ive on electric vehicle design

Italian luxury carmaker Ferrari and its parent company Exor (the holding company of the Agnelli family) will work with Jony Ive and Marc Newson, the creative designers behind many of Apple's iconic products, according to foreign media reports.

In addition to working with Ferrari, LoveFrom will "explore new and creative projects with Exor in luxury goods", a multi-year partnership agreement, LoveFrom and Exor said in a joint statement on Sept. 27.

A spokesman for Ferrari said the two designers would be involved in a wide range of businesses, possibly in other businesses such as car design and fashion.

When Louis Camilleri abruptly resigned as chief executive of Ferrari in 2020, the Italian media mentioned that Ive might be one of the candidates to succeed Camilleri. In the end, Ferrari hired Benedetto Vigna, a technology industry veteran, as its chief executive, and Vigna led the luxury sports car maker known for its roaring internal combustion engines into a new era of quiet electric transmission.

Ferrari hopes to expand the attractiveness and influence of its brand. In June, Ferrari launched its first in-house fashion collection and opened a new restaurant in Maranello, where it is headquartered. The company hopes that its brand extension strategy will contribute 10 per cent of its profits within 10 years.

Jony Ive and Marc Newson are now owned by LoveFrom, a company based in London and California that employs many designers, architects, writers, engineers and artists.

Ive, who was born in London, England, is now 54 years old. He was the chief designer and senior vice president at Apple. In 2019, Ive left Apple, where he had worked for 27 years. During his tenure as a designer at Apple, he played an important role in the design of iMac, MacBook, iPod, iPhone and iPad. Newson, an Australian, has designed everything from Qantas business class seats to Nike sneakers. Newson was also involved in the development of the Apple Watch.
