According to foreign media reports, General Motors said on Sept. 16 that it was extending the downtime of its eight crossover factories in North America as global chips and parts shortages continued, but that the lucrative full-size pickup truck and SUV plant would continue to produce. Stellantis also said its minivan plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, would stop production for a week from Sept. 27 due to a lack of cores.

GM's eight plants in North America will continue to stop production.

1. Delta Township plant in Lansing, Michigan, USA: the plant will be shut down for an additional week and will reopen on October 4th. Production at the plant, which mainly produces Chevrolet Traverse and Buick enclave, has been declining since July 19.

2. Grand River plant in Lansing, Michigan, USA: the plant will extend the shutdown time of Chevrolet Camaro, Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing until October 1st. The regular version of the CT4 and CT5 models will also be discontinued until October 1 as planned.

3. (Fairfax) factory in Fairfax, Virginia, USA: the plant is scheduled to resume production of Cadillac XT4 on September 20. The suspension of production of the Chevrolet Malibu will be extended to October 29th. The factory has stopped production since February 8.

4. The Wentzville plant in Missouri, USA: according to the plan, the plant will be closed next week, and production is scheduled to resume on September 27th. The plant has been closed since September 6. The factory mainly produces Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon medium-sized pickup trucks, as well as Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size commercial trucks.

5. CAMI factory in Ontario, Canada: the shutdown time of this plant will be extended to October 15th. The plant, which makes the Chevrolet Equinox, has been shut down since mid-July.

6. (San Luis Potosi) factory in San Luis Potosi, Mexico: the plant will stop production until October 15. The factory mainly produces Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain.

7. Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico: the shutdown time of the Chevrolet Blazer will be extended by one week before October 1st. Blazer production has been declining since August 23. In addition, the plant will stop production of the Chevrolet Equinox, from August 16 to October 15.

8. Orion factory in Michigan, USA: this factory mainly produces Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV. The factory will stop production until October 15 because of a shortage of batteries. GM recalled all its Bolt models in August because of fire risk and plans to add about $1 billion to the $800m it spent last quarter.

However, GM's production is profitable due to strong customer demand for full-size pickups and SUV. The company's seven pickup and SUV plants in North America will start normal production next week: full-size pickup factory in (Flint), Flint, Michigan, (Wayne) plant in Fort Wayne, Indiana, SUV plant in (Arlington), Arlington, Texas, Chevrolet Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, (Spring Hill) plant in Springhill, Tennessee, which manufactures GMC Acadia, Cadillac XT5 and XT6. The Cadillac XT4 factory in Fairfax, Kansas City, Virginia, And the Sirau (Silao) factory in Mexico.

Stellantis Windsor plant in Canada will stop production for a week

Stellantis's minivan plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada will stop production this week due to a global shortage of semiconductors.

The plant has been in a state of production reduction since September 13 and stopped production on September 20. It is reported that the plant suspended production for two weeks from August 30 to September 12 because of a shortage of chips. "We will continue to work closely with suppliers to mitigate the impact of various supply chain problems on automobile production," Stellantis said.

The Stellantis Windsor plant employs about 4500 workers and mainly produces Chrysler Pacifica, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, Chrysler Grand Caravan and Chrysler Voyager for the US market.

Stellantis said it continued to produce Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Challenger models at its plant in (Brampton), Ontario.

Infineon German factory closed for two days due to power outage

A spokesman for the Infineon factory in Dresden, Germany, said that starting from 2: 00 p.m. on September 13, the city of Dresden had a massive power outage of about 20 minutes and its Dresden plant was completely shut down. Production in the factory resumed on the evening of the 14th. Infineon did not quantify the impact of the blackout, but the temporary outage could exacerbate the chip shortage.

The Dresden plant is one of the largest and most advanced production bases of Infineon, a German automotive chipmaker, producing more than 400 different parts, including automotive chips.

Bosch and (GlobalFoundries) also have factories in Dresden. When asked if the companies were affected by the blackouts, the two companies did not respond to requests for comment.
