National Bureau of Statistics: August CPI rose 0.8% from a year earlier, up 0.1% from a month earlier.

In August 2021, consumer prices across the country rose 0.8% from a year earlier. Of this total, urban prices rose by 1.0%, rural areas by 0.3%, food prices by 4.1%, non-food prices by 1.9%, consumer goods prices by 0.3%, and service prices by 1.5%. On average from January to August, consumer prices across the country rose 0.6 percent over the same period last year.

In August, consumer prices across the country rose 0.1 percent from the previous month. Of this total, urban prices rose 0.1%, rural areas rose 0.2%, food prices rose 0.8%, non-food prices fell 0.1%, consumer goods prices rose 0.2%, and service prices remained unchanged.

I. year-on-year changes in the prices of all kinds of goods and services

In August, the price of food, tobacco and alcohol fell 2.0% from a year earlier, affecting the CPI (consumer price index) by about 0.58%. In food, livestock and meat prices fell by 27.1%, affecting CPI by about 1.20%, of which pork prices decreased by 44.9%, affecting CPI by about 1.09%; fresh vegetable prices by 1.5%, affecting CPI by about 0.03%; egg prices increased by 13.9%, affecting CPI by about 0.08%; The price of aquatic products rose 11.7%, affecting CPI by about 0.21%, fresh fruit prices by 5.0%, affecting CPI by about 0.08%, and grain prices by 0.8%, affecting CPI by about 0.01%.

The prices of the other seven categories are up and down by six compared with the same period last year. Among them, the prices of transportation, communications, education, culture and entertainment, and housing rose by 5.9%, 3.0% and 1.1% respectively, while the prices of daily necessities and services, clothing and health care rose by 0.6%, 0.5% and 0.4% respectively. The prices of other goods and services fell by 3.9%.

II. Month-on-month changes in the prices of all kinds of goods and services

In August, food, tobacco and alcohol prices rose 0.5% month-on-month, affecting CPI to rise by about 0.15%. In food, the price of fresh vegetables increased by 8.6%, affecting CPI by about 0.16%; the price of eggs rose by 7.3%, affecting CPI by about 0.05%; and the price of aquatic products decreased by 2.3%, affecting CPI by about 0.05%. Livestock and meat prices fell by 0.9%, affecting CPI by about 0.03%, including pork prices by 1.4%, affecting CPI by about 0.02%, and fresh fruit prices by 0.4%, affecting CPI by about 0.01%.

The prices of the other seven categories have gone up, two flat and three lower than the previous month. Among them, the prices of housing, daily necessities and services all rose 0.1 per cent; the prices of education, culture, entertainment and health care were all the same; and the prices of other supplies and services, transportation and communications, and clothing decreased by 0.9 per cent, 0.6 per cent and 0.1 per cent, respectively.
