Musk publicly named: Renesas and Bosch are the biggest problems in the automotive chip industry chain.

During a social media interaction between Tesla CEO and Katherine Wood, CEO of Ark Capital, on Thursday, local time, they publicly described the two big car chip companies as the "biggest problem" in the supply chain.

Mr Musk said that, as publicly disclosed, the company was operating under extreme supply chain restrictions on some "standard" car chips, and that by far the biggest problems were Renesas and Bosch.

It should be noted that Tesla is not the only one who directly named the two chip factories. Ford had previously said that a fire at Renesas's factory in northern Japan was the biggest risk to the company's production schedule, and media quoted people familiar with the matter as saying as early as January this year. Volkswagen has convened suppliers, including Bosch, to discuss compensation issues related to semiconductor shortages.

In response to the latest storm in the industry, Bosch spokesman Annett Fischer said that even if the plant in Dresden was put into operation in June, it would not be able to solve the overall shortage of semiconductors caused by various reasons. Fischer also stressed that in the current tense situation, we are doing our best to support our customers and make every effort to maintain delivery. Bosch has been working 24 / 7 with customers and suppliers for weeks.

It is worth mentioning that the reason why Katherine Wood first mentioned Tesla did not have much to do with semiconductors, but that exports from China rose significantly over the same period while discussing the decline in Tesla's domestic delivery data. Musk responded that in a quarter, Tesla produced cars for export in the first half of the quarter, while vehicles delivered by the local market were produced in the second half of the quarter.
