SHANGHAI, Aug 4 (SMM) - In the first fiscal quarter ending in June 2021, Indian crude steel production increased by 61% year-on-year to 27.8 million tons, compared with 17.26 million tons in the same period last year. In June 2021, India's crude steel output was 9.36 million tons.
In the first quarter of fiscal year 2022, the crude steel output of state-owned SAIL increased by 52.4% year-on-year to 3.77 million tons, and the output of molten iron was 4.13 million tons. During this period, sales increased 65.5% year-on-year to 3.77 million tons.
Tata Steel's crude steel output was the highest, with 4.62 million tons in the first quarter, an increase of 55% year-on-year, and 2.99 million tons in the same period last year. During this period, the other major steel producers were JSW Steel 4.1 million tons and JSPL 2.01 million tons.
"The production and consumption of steel in the first quarter of fiscal year 2022 have improved significantly compared with the same period in fiscal year 2021. At that time, the new crown epidemic lockdown measures led to a sharp decline in production and consumption, and the output of crude steel, finished steel and steel consumption increased by 60.6%, 87.7% and 103.1% respectively." said the Ministry of Iron and Steel.
