SHANGHAI, Jul 22 (SMM) - There was news on July 21 that Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) has formally sued China Lithium Battery Technology (CALB) for patent infringement of lithium battery. The source said that the alleged infringement covers all products of CATL.

The news immediately caused an uproar in the industry.

CATL is the world's recognised power battery leader, whose installed power battery capacity has been ranked first in the world for many years, and was only slightly surpassed by LG in May 2021. CALB is also a well-known power battery manufacturer in China, whose installed ternary capacity also ranked among the top two in China, and the installed ternary pure electric capacity ranked the fourth in the world.

However, CALB issued a statement, saying that it had not received a complaint against the infringement incident reported by the media as of the evening of July 21.

CALB stated that the company always regards independent research and development and technological innovation as the foundation, and carries out a comprehensive R&D layout and investment planning for the future.

According to CALB, it has long adhered to the two principles of technical achievement protection and IP risk prevention and control. While carrying out a full range of intellectual property rights protection, the professional intellectual property team will conduct comprehensive investigation to ensure that the products provided to customers do not infringe the intellectual property rights of others.
