According to foreign media reports, Daimler is accelerating its transition to electric mobile travel and plans to slash internal combustion engine models by 2030.
"We are moving from giving priority to producing electric cars to producing only electric cars," said a Daimler executive familiar with the situation. " This means that Daimler will have an all-electric version of each model, while the company's production, sales and structure will switch to a business model that is diesel-free and gasoline-free. According to the German weekly Automotive, Daimler may also phase out plug-in hybrids after 2030.
However, Daimler has not set a specific date for the cancellation of internal combustion engines, as there will be demand for diesel locomotives in some markets after 2030 (depending on the construction of the charging base).
According to reports, Daimler CEO Ola Kallenius plans to announce details of the plan on July 22nd, and is expected to announce new platforms for other electric models, as well as the launch of its own software operating system in 2024. Daimler had previously said its share of plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles would be just over 50 per cent by 2030. Daimler declined to comment.
The full electrification transition will put Mercedes-Benz on the same level as other companies that plan to sell only electric cars, especially in Europe. Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller said on July 8th that the company would become a pure electric car brand by 2028. Last month, Audi said it would stop production of internal combustion engine cars in markets other than China in the early 1930s. Jaguar says it will become a pure electric brand from 2025. Volvo and Bentley are expected to become pure electric car brands by 2040. Ford will sell only pure electric cars from 2030. BMW's strategy is more cautious, saying only that it expects half of its sales to come from pure electric cars by 2030. The Volkswagen brand plans to stop selling cars with internal combustion engines in Europe by 2035 and then in the United States and China.
