SHANGHAI, Jun 30 (SMM) — China's lithium carbonate imports stood at 8,578 mt in May, up 211% year on year. Shanghai and Jiangsu are the main importing provinces, traders and material factories purchased most. Taking Jiangsu as an example, mainstream material factories include Beijing Easpring Material Technology, Reshine New Material and Green. The average price of imported lithium carbonate in May stood at $7,122/mt (equivalent to about 46,000 yuan/mt), while domestic average prices stood at 85,000 yuan/mt.

The overall storage of lithium carbonate was about 5,975 mt in May. Domestic output and imports remained high. Some newly added production lines saw an increase in output in June.

Overseas imports are expected to be stable. Small motive power market became warm in end-Q2, but demand for 3C equipment was still sluggish. Demand in Q2 is unlikely to change a lot and prices to decline slightly amid the oversupply.
