Last October, Foxconn (Foxconn Group) launched the MIH electric vehicle open platform, which opened the software and hardware of the platform to other companies, hoping to invite partners from all walks of life to join and expand the MIH alliance to build an ecosystem of electric vehicle software, hardware and components.
At the MIH online conference held on June 25 this year, MIH CEO Zheng Xiancong revealed that the MIH Open Electric vehicle Alliance has been joined by more than 1600 partner companies in the field of hardware and software, and the number is still increasing every day.
As the second public event held by MIH, this conference not only announced its official name online for the first time-MIH Consortium, also clearly expounded its organizational framework, operation model and development vision.
Specifically, MIH Consortium is responsible for running the MIH Open Electric vehicle Alliance to promote cooperation in the mobile industry to achieve its mission. The alliance is made up of MIH members who will participate in Advisory Committee and Technical Committee as well as Working Group and Interest Group. The alliance and its members will jointly create an open electric vehicle platform through the realization and standardization of electric vehicle technology. In the future, MIH Consortium will aim to create an open electric vehicle ecosystem that promotes comprehensive cooperation in the mobile industry, providing opportunities for the entire mobile industry to accelerate innovation and open up business opportunities.
Nowadays, electric vehicles are developing rapidly, but there are still some shortcomings. in order to realize the large-scale popularization of electric vehicles, in addition to the improvement of vehicle performance such as battery life, it is also necessary to comprehensively improve infrastructure, supporting services and so on. this is obviously beyond the reach of a single car brand or manufacturing enterprise. In addition, as far as the whole automobile industry is concerned, the development cost is too high, the development period is long and the resources are insufficient in the process of electrified development.
The MIH electric vehicle open platform was born under this background. Wei Guozhang, chief technology officer of MIH, said that open source can stimulate innovation in hardware and software platforms, shorten development time and provide the foundation for a vibrant market. MIH wants to build an open ecosystem, subvert the development model of electric vehicles, and allow all members to participate and succeed.
Specifically, MIH originates from the long-term experience accumulated by the founding team in the communications (ICT) industry. Through the international platform of "modularization and standardization", the electric vehicle industry can reduce repeated investment, reduce development schedule and development costs, and let electric vehicle industry products enter the market faster. MIH aims to accelerate the development cycle of electric vehicles from four years to two years and reduce development costs by 1/3 or even 1/2. The three elements of MIH Alliance Public Edition model: standardization, modularization and platform, will greatly reduce the entry threshold for the development of electric vehicles and create an era in which everyone has the opportunity to participate.
Zheng Xianchong said that the alliance's focus today is on defining key technologies, developing reference designs and standards for all members to communicate with each other, thereby reducing the threshold of entry, accelerating innovation and shortening the development cycle.
It is understood that MIH works with its members to develop reference designs and standards through Working Groups to implement key technologies. For example, Honghua (Honghua, a joint venture between Foxconn and Yulong, which provides vehicle engineering and styling design and development, as well as MIH's first open hardware platform) provides an initial physical hardware vehicle platform to provide the use of open communication protocols and wire control technologies. This provides a usable interface for software-focused developers to control the platform through system solutions and testing products on the latest EEA Architecture (Electrical/Electronic Architecture).
It is worth mentioning that although MIH was inspired by Foxconn, it is planned to become an independent organization in July this year.
Zheng Xiancong mentioned earlier that the goal of the MIH platform is to be an Android (Android), in the electric car industry to provide diversified customer experience and scene coverage. Key tasks such as security, personal privacy and vehicle performance are important backbones, colliding with technology applications such as voice, vision, and vehicle entertainment systems, and developers can come up with solutions according to the different needs of customers. MIH Alliance is an open platform that can accommodate different opinions, allowing developers to learn from each other, connect the technical side and the user side, enhance user experience, and propose solutions to meet customer needs. "MIH allows developers to achieve more inspiration and creativity."
Cheng Yili, Executive Vice President and CIO of trend Technology Core Technologies, said, "the contribution and participation of alliance members is critical to the success of MIH's open EV ecosystem. Since six years ago, we have established a network security team to provide connected automotive solutions to industry partners. We can foresee that the safety of connected vehicles will be a key issue in the future, and trend Technology is the best partner to implement safety design. "
Liu Yangwei, chairman of Foxconn Group, a founding member of MIH, said in a speech at the online conference that in order to promote an open and neutral B2B platform, he made three promises: first, in the next six months, invite industry leaders from the software and hardware industry to join to establish a new, more diverse and more open board of directors; Second, the MIH organization will be open, neutral and independent from Hon Hai, and the members in charge of the operation will be senior scientific and technological talents who are "technologically leading and professional"; third, its electric vehicle products will make full use of the design and standards of MIH in the future, and give priority to the components and solutions of MIH members.
