Lead ingot social inventory shrank amid tighter supply

Published: Jun 21, 2021 15:59 (GMT+8)
Social inventories of lead ingots across Shanghai, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Tianjin dropped 4,900 mt from last Friday and declined 3,300 mt from January 15 to 125,100 mt as of January 21, an SMM survey showed.

SHANGHAI, Jan 21 (SMM) – Social inventories of lead ingots across Shanghai, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Tianjin dropped 4,900 mt from last Friday and declined 3,300 mt from January 15 to 125,100 mt as of January 21, an SMM survey showed.

Since last week, the tight supply of lead concentrate led to lower output of primary lead. Lead prices stood close to 15,000 yuan/mt, and secondary lead prices fell below the cost line, suppressing the smelters’ enthusiasm for production. Some smelters in Anhui started maintenance, and the overall supply of primary and secondary lead declined on the week. At the same time, downstream users maintained a certain amount of purchases around 15,000 yuan/mt, leading to a decrease in the social inventory of lead ingots, especially in Jiangsu and other major consumption regions.

[Camel Group at 140th Canton Fair: Multi-Technology LEV Battery Portfolio for Global Mobility]
At the 140th Canton Fair, Camel Group is exhibiting LEV batteries for electric two- and three-wheelers, low-speed four-wheelers and golf carts, addressing different requirements for range, payload, cycle life and total cost of ownership. Its lithium-ion LEV batteries are built on 64V and 76.8V platforms with capacities from 20Ah to 206Ah; they use LFP cells and an intelligent BMS and target applications including daily commuting, last-mile delivery, cargo transport, and construction and utility vehicles. Camel is also showing LEV lead-acid batteries on 6V, 8V and 12V platforms with capacities from 13.3Ah to 150Ah, providing deep-cycle life under different duty cycles. For automotive low-voltage applications, it is displaying SLI, EFB and AGM lead-acid batteries alongside low-voltage lithium-ion and sodium-ion products. Its lithium-ion portfolio covers 12V to 48V architectures, supporting vehicle starting, auxiliary and backup power, commercial-vehicle parking air-conditioning systems, and 48V electrical systems. Its 12V sodium-ion battery is part of a pre-development project with a European automotive manufacturer, with technical development and validation work to follow. This year marks the Canton Fair's 70th anniversary; Camel is engaging customers and partners from Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Asia-Pacific and other regions on market needs, product applications and cooperation opportunities. Supported by its 10+6+3+2 footprint — 10 smart manufacturing bases, 6 overseas offices, 3 R&D centers and 2 circular business systems — Camel continues to strengthen product development, supply and service capabilities while advancing lead-acid, lithium-ion and sodium-ion technologies for evolving mobility needs.

[Excellon Restarting Past-Producing Mallay Silver-Lead-Zinc Mine in Peru]
Excellon Resources is restarting the past-producing Mallay silver-lead-zinc mine in Peru. The underground operation, built around silver-lead-zinc vein mineralization, has a 600-tonne-per-day processing plant, approximately 30 kilometres of underground mine development and existing mine infrastructure. The company plans to produce two primary concentrates: a lead concentrate containing the majority of the silver, and a separate zinc concentrate. Three drill rigs are currently active across the mine as Excellon looks for wider mineralized zones that could support greater mechanization and help supply the processing plant at an average rate of 600 tonnes per day. Management also plans to begin drilling the Tres Cerros target around the middle of next year. As Excellon transitions from developer toward producer, management's objective is to reach free cash flow while continuing to explore and redevelop the broader district in central Peru. Excellon trades on the TSX.V under the symbol EXN.
