On June 17, SMIC said on the investor interaction platform that the company accounted for nearly 45% of its revenue from customers in Europe and the United States in the first quarter of this year, and that the company's production capacity was in short supply.

SMIC also pointed out that at present, the global integrated circuit manufacturing industry is in short supply, and the company's capacity utilization rate has reached 98.5%.

It is understood that SMIC's revenue in the first quarter was 1.1 billion US dollars, higher than the market expectation of 1.047 billion US dollars, compared with 905 million US dollars in the same period last year; net profit was 158.9 million US dollars, the market is expected to be 104 million US dollars, and 64 million US dollars in the same period last year.

Zhao Haijun, SMIC's joint CEO, said on the performance conference call that the semiconductor market was in full demand in the first quarter of this year, and the existing production capacity could not meet the needs of customers, and various product segments were out of stock, from power management, RF chips, driver chips to MCU, special storage, camera chip (CIS) and other categories.

Zhao further pointed out that in the mature process sector, the market demand is very strong, and the supply of production capacity will continue to fall short of demand until the end of the year, among which the production capacity of process nodes such as 40nm, 0.15 μ m and 0.18 μ m is particularly tight. In terms of chip categories, the three product platforms, CIS, special storage and power management chips, were the most in demand, with combined revenue rising 20 per cent in the first quarter compared with the previous quarter. In addition, with the rise of the domestic panel industry chain, high-voltage driver chips have emerged as a new force, and the demand has entered a rapidly rising track, driving SMIC 0.15 μ m, and the revenue of panel high-voltage driver chips of 50nm and 40nm process nodes doubled in the first quarter.

Dr. Gao Yonggang, SMIC's chief financial officer, pointed out that revenue in the second quarter is expected to grow by 17% to 19% month-on-month, gross profit margin is expected to be between 25% and 27%, and revenue in the first half of this year is expected to be about $2.4 billion.

Silicon Metal Market Review for January and Outlook for February
In January, the silicon metal market experienced a relatively loose supply-demand balance, with a theoretical inventory buildup of approximately 30,000 mt. In February, both supply and demand contracted simultaneously, and the market is expected to show a tight balance or minor destocking. The current high industry inventory still requires time to be digested, and the sustainability of destocking remains a key variable affecting price trends and market sentiment.

A plant in northern China is calling for bids for indium ingots and bismuth ingots
SMM, February 6 - According to SMM’s investigation of market information, a large smelter in northern China began public bidding for a certain quantity of indium ingots and bismuth ingots starting yesterday. Market sources indicate that the starting price for these indium ingots exceeds 4,000 yuan per kilogram, while the starting price for bismuth ingots is above 150,000 yuan per ton. The bidding results are expected to be announced before the Spring Festival. Market participants note that, given the clear trend of sluggish trading activity ahead of the Spring Festival, the timing of this bidding is not ideal. However, the relatively favorable starting prices have generated considerable market anticipation for the outcome of the bidding.
