Zinc social inventories shrank 1,100 mt over weekend

SMM data showed that social inventories of refined zinc ingots across Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong and Hebei decreased 1,100 mt from last Friday May 28 to 154,400 mt as of Monday May 31. The stocks were down 7,100 mt from May 24.

SHANGHAI, May 31 (SMM) – Zinc inventories in China fell over the weekend.

Stocks in Shanghai decreased slightly as the inflow of import zinc was limited, the market digested domestic zinc stocks and downstream procurement slowed down. In south China's Guangdong, market arrivals volume were still low on weekends, the downstream demand also declined, and the market supply and demand were weak. Stocks in Tianjin fell slightly as downstream reduced production with increasing zinc prices, which made the overall demand weak.

Compared to last Friday, social inventories of refined zinc across the three major trading hubs (Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangdong) decreased 800 mt.

Arcus and Core Launch ~3,000m Drill Program to Follow Up Copper-Gold-Zinc-Silver Mineralization at Touleary

Arcus Development Group and Core Silver have launched an approximately 3,000-metre diamond drilling program at the Touleary VMS Project in Yukon, with initial drilling focused on the Discovery Zone and surrounding areas. The program is the first drilling campaign at Touleary since 2011, and crews and equipment were mobilized after permits were secured. Historical drilling included a 2.25-metre interval grading 4.30% zinc, alongside copper, gold and silver, and a 3.17-metre interval grading 1.38% zinc. The 2026 campaign is designed to test extensions of the Discovery Zone beyond the limited historical drill area while retaining flexibility to test undrilled targets such as Target 4 and Target 8, which carry copper-zinc and broader polymetallic anomalies.

[SMM Commentaire Matinal sur le Zinc] Pendant la nuit, le contrat de zinc SHFE le plus traité 2610 a ouvert à 27 690 yuans/tonne. En début de séance, le zinc SHFE a légèrement reculé jusqu'à un plus bas de 27 615 yuans/tonne. Par la suite, les acheteurs ont renforcé leurs positions, et le zinc SHFE a progressé, atteignant un plus haut de 27 835 yuans/tonne près de la clôture, pour finalement s'établir en hausse à 27 820 yuans/tonne, en progression de 82 yuans/tonne, soit 0,31 %. Le volume de transactions a diminué à 80 202 lots, tandis que l'intérêt ouvert a augmenté de 303 lots pour atteindre 158 000 lots.

Pendant les échanges européens, il a reculé jusqu'à un creux de 3 990 $/t, puis les acheteurs ont renforcé leurs positions, poussant le zinc au LME à la hausse. Vers la clôture, il a touché un sommet de 4 065 $/t, pour finalement s'établir en hausse à 4 064 $/t, en progression de 43 $/t, soit 1,07 %. Le volume de transactions a reculé à 13 305 lots, tandis que l'intérêt ouvert a augmenté de 1 267 lots pour atteindre 264 000 lots.
