[Rio Tinto's smelter in Iceland is ASI certified] Rio Tinto said on Monday that its ISAL smelter in Iceland had passed the (ASI) certification of the aluminum management plan and met the highest international standards for responsible aluminum production.

Rio Tinto said on Monday that its ISAL smelter in Iceland had been certified by the aluminum management plan (ASI) to meet the highest international standards for responsible aluminum production.

After being audited by an independent third-party "desktop" of ERM CVS, ISAL has obtained the certification of ASI performance standards with a temporary status. The company said it would complete the on-site audit once Covid-19 travel restrictions were relaxed.

Rio (Rio Tinto) is a founding member of ASI and the first company to supply ASI aluminum in 2018.

Rio (Rio Tinto) threatened to close the ISAL aluminium smelter last year, accusing Landsvirkjun, a local energy supplier, of abusing its dominant market position. The company reached a new power agreement at the beginning of this year, allowing the business to continue to operate.
