Sumia Swaminathan, chief scientist of World Health Organization (WHO), pointed out in an interview with the media a few days ago that because of the limited nucleic acid detection capacity in India, the epidemic situation in India may be seriously underestimated, and the actual number of infections in India may be 20 to 30 times the number currently announced. According to the scientist, the number of COVID-19 infections in India may have reached about 350 million to 530 million now. The scientist believes that although India has been improving its nucleic acid detection ability recently, there are still many omissions, and the actual situation is much worse than reported.
As the novel coronavirus epidemic in India worsened, the local government ordered many parts of the country to close cities for a limited time in order to prevent the epidemic from spreading further, while Wittron, Hon Hai, MediaTek and other well-known domestic electronics factories all have contract factories in India.
It is normal to stop work in disguise and evacuate from home and office in India.
Weituang, the contract manufacturer of Apple phones, bears the brunt, becoming the first Taiwanese electronics factory to be forced to shut down since the Indian epidemic got out of control.
On May 2, Wituang said that in order to cooperate with the epidemic prevention measures of the local government in Bangalore, the company will take a day off from May 1 to 5 for epidemic prevention, and Wituang will cooperate with the relevant government epidemic prevention measures or decrees.
In addition to a five-day "disguised shutdown" for Apple's contract manufacturer iPhone, Witron's Bangalore (Bangalore) factory also arranges domestic staff to work remotely in hotels or dormitories.
Home-office measures have become the norm of epidemic prevention in these contract factories. According to reports, a large electronics company, which spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that India is relatively short of materials and is more troublesome to transport than in other countries. In order to protect their employees, many local Taiwanese businessmen let their local employees mainly work from home, so as to reduce the risk of infection. If employees have a demand for alcohol, masks and other epidemic prevention materials, the headquarters will also help with the dispatch on a regular basis.
MediaTek, a major mobile phone chip designer, has strongholds in Bangalore and the satellite city of Noida (Noida) in New Delhi. MediaTek said in an interview that at present, everything is normal around the world (including India), with R & D and technical support mainly in its strongholds in Bangalore and Noida, India. The company launched the (WFH) mechanism for employees to work remotely from home last year, and the Indian stronghold is operating normally.
Some manufacturers have "left" India ahead of schedule. Compal, the global leader in notebook computer manufacturing, used to have a stronghold in Noida, a satellite city in New Delhi, India. Compal pointed out in an interview that due to market conditions, the Noida stronghold is no longer in operation. Compal also does not have a domestic staff base in India, and Compal is not affected by the epidemic in India.
No one has been infected with the epidemic for the time being, but the production is blocked and the expansion plan is still moving forward steadily.
At least 11 Taiwanese working in India have been infected and others have died in a hospital in Gurgaon (Gurgaon), a satellite city of (New Delhi) in New Delhi, northern India, according to media reports.
It is understood that the well-known domestic listed companies with strongholds in Gurgaon include Delta Electric and Jiashida Group, but both companies have clarified that no one has been infected.
However, Delta admitted earlier that production at the Indian plant had been disrupted by the local epidemic. The company, an electronic manufacturing company specializing in power and transformer systems, pointed out in an interview that construction at the new plant in India has been suspended, some production lines in the plant continue to operate, and other employees work from home; at present, about 10 domestic staff of Delta Electric in India are in normal condition.
The same thing happened to Hon Hai, Pegatron, TECO and other manufacturers.
Foxconn parent company Hon Hai stressed that local production is normal at present.
For a long time, Hon Hai has implemented strict epidemic prevention measures. in addition to continuously connecting various factories at home and abroad to hold epidemic prevention meetings, it has been conducting regular epidemic prevention audits, and all factories at home and abroad have reported the situation directly to the headquarters.
At present, Hon Hai Group's Indian plant is mainly located in the important city of (Tamil Nadu) in Tamil Nadu province, Chennai (Chennai),. Hon Hai's Indian plant has already produced Apple iPhone XR and iPhone11, while Apple confirmed to the Indian media in mid-March that it wants to manufacture iPhone 12 products in India. Hon Hai's Indian plant will play a key role.
TECO Electric has an office in New Delhi, India and an operating base in (Gujarat), Guchaladi province. Dongyuan pointed out in an interview that sales are affected by some local blockade policies, and the shipping schedule also has some impact, but all of them have been properly dealt with; Dongyuan pointed out that there are no domestic employees in India at present.
TECO plans to set up a production line for electric vehicle motors in Bangalore. In May, construction of a power system production line for electric vehicle motors plus frequency converters will begin in Bangalore. It is expected to be completed by the end of this year, and mass production will begin in January next year. The investment in cooperation with Mitsui Trading Company is nearly 20 million US dollars.
In addition to the above-mentioned manufacturers, Youxun, Pegatron and other manufacturers have indicated that existing plans to set up factories or expand production in India will not be affected.
