A hacker group called REvil, which obtained a large number of product drawings by attacking Apple supplier Quanta computer (Quanta Computer), is trying to force the consumer electronics giant to pay a $50 million ransom by threatening to disclose the designs, media reported on Wednesday.
Ironically, in order to prove that "we have something on hand," while Apple held its new product launch yesterday, REvil also released some blueprints for suspected new Macbook computer designs and asked Apple to pay US $50 million by May 1, otherwise some new designs would be released every day.
Quanta responded to the hacking on Wednesday, saying it was working with external technical experts to deal with the attack on a small number of servers. The daily operation of the company is not affected. Reported that hacker groups had asked Quanta to pay $50 million worth of virtual currency by April 27, but turned to Apple after Quanta refused to pay the ransom.
Laptop contract manufacturing giant Quanta computer is an important supplier of Apple's Macbook product line. In addition to Apple, Quanta also provides similar contract manufacturing services for Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Amazon, Lenovo, LG and other big companies.
