According to foreign media reports, Stellantis's main shareholder and head of holding company Exor said on April 1 that Stellantis is considering nearly tripling its global electric vehicle sales this year.

John Elkann, chairman of the world's fourth-largest carmaker, said in a letter to Exor shareholders that the company aims to sell 400000 electric vehicles this year, up from 139000 last year, thanks to the launch of 11 new models.

Stellantis, which was formally formed in January by the merger of Fiat Chrysler and the PSA Group, now hopes to use its size to compete with competitors in the race to produce more electric cars.

As part of the plan, the number of Stellantis hybrid or pure electric vehicles will increase from the current 29 to 40 by the end of this year. Stellantis plans to launch all electric or hybrid versions of all models in Europe by 2025, which is largely in line with the plans of competitors such as Volkswagen and Renault-Nissan.

By the end of this year, Stellantis will launch hydrogen-and battery-electric hybrid medium-sized commercial vans from Peugeot, Citroen and Opel, with a promised range of 400km (250miles). The "medium power" hydrogen fuel cell transmission system on Citroen Jumpy, Opel Vivaro and Peugeot Expert could be extended to passenger cars, the company said at an online event.

In addition, by 2033, Peugeot will offer an all-electric version of the 308 compact hatchback, a previously unannounced powertrain configuration that can compete with Volkswagen's ID.3. Its sister brand Opel / Vauxhall's next-generation Astra will also be available in an all-electric version.
