According to the latest statistics of the General Administration of Customs, from January to July 2020, the total export volume of magnesium products from six tax codes in China totaled 228900 tons, down 14.75% from the same period last year. From January to July, the overall decline of China's magnesium export volume is obvious. However, it is gratifying that the export volume of magnesium scrap and magnesium processed materials still keeps growing. In the first half of 2020, the average annual price of raw magnesium in China was 13716 yuan / ton, down 18.46 percent from the same period last year. The average daily price in the first half of the year ranges from 12750 to 15000 yuan per ton. Magnesium prices continued to fluctuate lower in the first half of the year. During the first quarter of the period, in February, the transportation of raw materials was affected by local traffic control at the beginning of the resumption of work after the epidemic year. The price of magnesium reached the highest transaction price of 15000 yuan / ton after a relatively short period of time. The epidemic continued to ferment, and the demand for magnesium ingots at home and abroad was weak. Then it fell all the way.
Former magnesium smelting enterprises: affected by the epidemic in 2020, enterprises are facing difficulties. Some enterprises due to the lack of personnel to the post, a small number of personnel, affecting the normal production, resulting in insufficient production capacity, part of the reduction furnace shut down. Logistics was blocked due to the epidemic, which affected the transportation of raw materials such as dolomite, ferrosilicon and magnesium ingots. Some enterprises barely relied on inventory before the year ago, and improved in the later period of the epidemic. The influence of the epidemic situation of logistics and upstream enterprises leads to the rise of raw material prices and drives up the production costs of enterprises. Including dolomite, ferrosilicon, raw coal and so on. The manpower and funds invested in response to the epidemic have relatively little impact on enterprises.

Affected by the negative factors of the epidemic in the first half of the year, the demand for domestic trade and foreign trade was successively frustrated, and manufacturers depressed the price of magnesium, resulting in a continuous decline in magnesium prices. From February to October, the price of magnesium ingots fell by 3000 yuan / ton, down 20%. On October 30, the establishment of Shaanxi Yulin magnesium Industry (Group) to boost market confidence, coupled with the corresponding policy and financial support, magnesium ingot prices rose rapidly. From November to mid-December, magnesium ingot prices rose 3000 yuan to 15700 yuan / ton. The global demand decreased due to the epidemic in 2020, resulting in a decline in the growth rate of magnesium processing materials consumption and a decline in foreign magnesium demand. China produced 720000 tons of magnesium ingots, down 15 per cent from the same period last year. Magnesium consumption of magnesium alloys is rising against the trend: in 2020, the domestic magnesium consumption of magnesium alloys in China was 187000 tons, an increase of 17000 tons over 2019, accounting for 36% of the national magnesium consumption. The output of aluminum-magnesium alloy increased: in 2020, the output of aluminum in China was 57.793 million tons, an increase of 8.6% over the same period last year. The demand for magnesium, as the main additive element, increased accordingly, and the magnesium consumption was about 153000 tons, accounting for 29% of the national magnesium consumption.
The demand for metal reduction is strong: the main application areas continue to warm up. In 2020, the total output of sponge titanium was about 110000 tons, an increase of 31.04% over the same period last year, and magnesium consumption was about 93000 tons, accounting for 18% of the national magnesium consumption. The growth of magnesium powder consumption slowed down: overcapacity in steel mills, coupled with environmental protection and consumption reduction policies, steel production is facing a pullback in the future, with magnesium consumption of about 53000 tons, accounting for 10% of the country's coal consumption.
